bike cuts out anything over 80kph

Postby gazza2008au » Sun Sep 21, 2008 1:33 pm

i had my ZXR250 in the shop about a month and a half ago i got the carby's service but when i sit around 80kph or above the bike surges and feels like its cutting out if i apply more throttle it comes good but soon as i go back to a steady crusing position it starts to stall again what could be wrong? im thinking the jets in the carby could be blocked?

Hey Gazza, it sounds like a fuel problem :? starting from the top check your filler cap that the breather is working & you are not getting back pressure in the tank, but that usually results in the bike stopping  (easy way to check is to leave the bike in the sun after going for a ride & if it starts to whistle then it's is fine) next would be to make sure the fuel cock is ok... Does it do the same in reserve?
also it could possibly be a kinked hose when the service was done. That leaves Fuel pump and or a carbie issue.
Good luck with the diagnosis

Sounds like you should take the bike back to them if this happened after a service.... let them sort it out, but make sure they know that the piggy bank is dry of course ;) ......................................BTW .....cracked up at your new sig laughing7.gif laughing7.gif

could perhaps be a ramair/airbox problem too (they have ram-air don't they?).
I had similar probs on my ZZR600 when the ramair tube to the carbs had come loose when putting the fairing back on

Two ways to do the timing chain, #1 is thread new chain onto old and follow it through, which is how you'd have to do it on the engines where the camchain is between #2 & #3. If you wanted to do a only partially halfarsed job of it then engine out, split cases, remove old chain, put new one on the crank.

you'll need a chain splitter as well as determination a short length of wire smaller than the pin diameter (or a spare pin to punch back in & out again) nd a gob of creativity to split the new onto the old one effectively.

Been there, done it, f*ing headache to do and would rather do that gem by credit card unless i've already got the engine out/apart for another reason.

Do you think its the chain or the tensioner itself? first things first you'll have to get a manual and measured the chain up to see if it is within spec or not

when i had the bike in at mick dyer motorcycles i had them readjust the cam chain tentioner so im thinking its either the cam chain or the rubber peice that takes up the slack of the chain im not sure what this is called ive got the book to tell me the chain lengths what type of ruler would i use?

Clutch rattle. Pretty typical of ZXR250s, actually. I ignore mine.
