OK Im lazy and couldn't be arsed reading through finding old threads so here goes:

In the wet yesterday at EC the Dunlop Qualifiers were shocking! In the dry they seem fine but Im yet to ride on any other tyre... Once the rain hit the front end was all over the shop! Felt like I was riding on those snake tar things up the OPH! The front tyre was sliding mid corner with slight throttle on (no i wasnt on the brakes) and Ive never felt less in control! Was during Superbike school and the instructor was behind me and assured me I wasnt doing anything wrong! Losing traction in the rear didnt scare me so much but having the front end slide was frightening!!! :shock:

So Im asking:
1. Am I just being paranoid and need to HTFU? (which I seriously doubt but Im sure Ill get some answers to that effect :lol: )
2. As 90% know Im only doing track days so the pressure was at 30PSI for front and rear. Should I change this if its going to be wet?
3. Ill probs get 1 or two more dry days with these current tyres as I didnt get a chance to hammer them yesterday so what type's should I be looking at for track days / schools?
4. Is there anything else I should be considering apart from tyres?

Mate unless you are planing on running full wet tyres, dont worry... any standard road tyre is going to do that esp if its a few k's old.... consider most of your track time will be in the dry I would not worry about doing anything, as for tyre choice where do we start :roll:

get a set of bt45s.. they worked for me in the wet... :lol:

as rob said, any sports tyre wi;; be shit in the wet cos there just arent enough grooves to clear the water from the tyre....

also a difference between tyre profile and contact patch, heat at which tyres work well... bt45s low temp.... qualifiers high temp...

Some road tyres will be better than others Rob. Ones which are 'road legal race rubber' will have very few grooves and won't do a good job of dispersing waterm but offer better grip levels in the dry. Some tyres such as the Dunlop Roadsmart (a semi-touring tyre and certainly not a regular trackday tyre) are reportedly *really* good in the wet due to their design and construction. As Robracer said pretty much anything is going to slip around a bit on a damp cold day. At least you didn't have the 002's I slid around on :shock:

The Dunlop Qualifiers that came with the 10 (I still have mine on) are absolutely shit in the wet imo. More slippery than any other tyre I've ever used. I think it might be the compound rather than the pattern as I don't remember m3's or pilot powers having that much more tread and they sure felt a whole heap better (on the 6).

I'm really looking forward to trying something different (M3''s yeah!!) when they wear out.

Metzler M1s if you can find them. Did a track day in the wet at P.I, went hard and only had two minor slips, one where I put in too much throttle throught he apex and one where I was trying too hard through 12 into gardner and ran wide. Can't fault the tyres,

Even after having them up to temperature after some laps they never really inspired any confidence :? I ride the 250 in the wet through the putty etc. Didnt feel as anywhere near as threatening and the movement in the front was minimal.

Ill stick with what Ive got till they are completely knackered then do some research from there. Ill stay off the track next time its pouring and wait for a dry line to develop! Ill save any more riding school's until summertime from now on ;)

But when it comes to registering it for the road I definately want a tyre that can get me home! The current one's would have seen me parked and eating scones (sound familiar ;) ) :lol:
