ZRX1200 cams

Postby Dave Milligan » Sun Dec 02, 2007 9:25 am

Hi All,

Anyone here heard of cam lobe hardening problems on the ZRX1200 models?

I've got a 2002 ZRX1200s (64,000kms) and my service mechanic did the shims a few weeks ago and told me there is unusual and excessive wear on some of the exhaust lobes. Asking questions of the dealer and a Kwak staff member at the Sydney Motorcycle Show, they reckon they've never heard of such a thing, but I'd expect them to say that.

Obviously it's well out of warranty so I don't expect Kawasaki Aust to accept a claim. Apparently it's not yet bad enough to need to do anything, but my mechanic will keep an eye on it each time he tunes it.

Kind regards
Dave Milligan

Dave,
I've not heard of this on the ZRX.
I did have the same problem on a GPZ750 A1 back in '84 with about the same kms as yours. Kept an eye on it and it didn't get any worse.
Ask the question on the http://retrozedual.proboards46.com/index.cgi#general website, there's a fair few ZRX owners there.
Cheers,
TC

A common problem with ZRX's and ZZR's some cams were soft, your dealer may fix the problem if pushed even though it is out of warranty.
Any queries drop me a PM.
