I bought a (nother ) ZZR600 a few weeks ago for parts, not realising at the time that it had aftermarket cans on it. Is it possible to get the dings out of them?
The other side is only slightly grazed.

Well from my experience, stainless steel is hard to get dents out. By the looks of those creases
your not going to get anyone to pull them out. You are better off pulling the muffler down and rolling
new stainless and welding or pop rivet it onto the neck and repack the muffler.

I'm sorry but It would cost a fortune to get somone to fix them, if they would do it in the first place If the cans are round you could buy some stainless tube and get someone to tig weld them over the top each end like a cover, it would be easy to do and pretty cheap ( thou stainless is exy shop around or even go to a metal recyclers they aways have stainless tube ) polish them up and you b laughin'

If they'd been repairable I would have put them on my best red bike, but it's okay - I think I can find a use for them.

what a shame ..the one with the dent at the back, u could cut it out and make a shorty...

staintues are a nice pipe..abt $600 each i reckon... tho if u called adam and told him u were a mate of mine, he may be able to hook u up (i use to work there, then bought his bike off him)...

In long, they could be. Anything can be repaired but there are 3 factors - Money, time and effort.

buy some more on ebay, they look beyond repair..sorry

Probably why he's so correct...

Partly because I'm a grot, and partly because I frevently believe that crash damage on your bike makes you ride faster and discourages thieves, if I had a set of mufflers like those, I'd just leave them. Those are significant dings and gouges, but they're just dings and gouges, not like they're likely to affect the functioning of the mufflers...

Fixing damaged muffler sleeves requires disassembling the muffler, rolling out any dents, then polishing out the scratches; if the scratches are deep, filling them in with weld may be required, and that takes a lot of polishing. With Staintunes, not only are the end caps welded on instead of rivetted, they use internal baffles for silencing instead of just wadding between the perforated core and the sleeve; that means a lot of careful cutting at the start, followed by a lot of rewelding at the end... end result, way too much effort for it to be worthwhile. If it was a Z1, and those dents were in the original factory 4-4, maybe you'd break a sweat, but Staintunes on a crashed ZZ-R600...

Not forgetting the prop that was holding up the woodpile - otherwise known as a KH125

fire an email to staintune, they used to do a repair service at a lot less than new price

I saw this post way too late, but the other guys are pretty much right. I work with stainless everyday and make pretty much anything and everything out of it. They certainly could be fixed but whether or not the cost would be feasable is another question.

They look great on the car though
