Oil Drain Plug Washer

Postby Chingrish » Tue May 15, 2007 11:30 am

Planning to change my oil and filter for the '05 636 this week, should i change the washer or not? i've heard i can just turn it around but i dont like that idea much.

IF i should change it can i just use any washer and what size are they? Hardened?

not sureon specifics but im pretty sure you should be useing a brass washer as they will squash a bit when tightened giving a better seal, i would say just go and buy a new one, should only cost a few dollars

I have done three oil changes on mine without changing it. Oh and for the torque specs, about three quarters of a grunt

i think ur dealer will have a washer for abt $2... so i buy a new one every change, or every 2nd change....

not worth the drama of having an oil leak.,..

Never replaced it either!!

Once it got chewed, so i fliped it over and tightened it a bit harder, just over a grunt!

a mate of mine did an oil change the night before a trackday, tightened to 2 grunts. damaged the thread and was leaking oil all over the track the next day...lucky he was out there for only one session when i discovered there was a puddle under his bike :?

its more the hassle of getting the washer rather than the $2 for me...

Check your manual for torque settings. In regards to the compression washer if your buying your filter and oil from the right place they will just give you one, or as Neka has said it only costs a couple of bucks.

But I guess if you don't change it for 28 years, at 5 changes a year that means you'll save yourself $280
