Belt driven alternator Q's

Postby Barclay » Sun Feb 18, 2007 3:56 pm

I've got an 86 GPX750 that came without an alternator. I tracked down a belt-driven alternator for it. I can mount the alternator fine, but there's nothing to drive it left on the engine.

I haven't got a manual so i'm assuming that there is supposed to be a drive pulley coming out of the engine, which goes through the oil seal and screws onto the end of the drive shaft inside. The belt then runs between the two pulleys, and a cover goes over the whole shebang.

Is this the case?

If so, any suggestions where I can get a drive pulley and belt from? The wreckers haven't been much help, and last time i called Kwakasaki they wanted $1500 for an alternator..

Are there any other bikes that have the same drive system for the alternator that I can get the pulley from, as GPX's aren't common.

Thanks
I'm short 6 cylinders!

Pretty sure ZXR750 H1 and H2 (first two models) at least run a belt drive alternator and a similar if not the same engine to yours.
You can look up a parts list for the various bikes on http://www.buykawasaki.com. :)
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Wow, that site's really useful. Turns out I was right, all I need is a pulley and a belt and I should be able to put it back together. I've got the part numbers so i'll get costs forthem new, but i think I should be sitting down when they give me the prices..

Any ideas for second handers?
