I've just jumped back on my 03 636 after a enforced time off the bike and after a cruisy ride of about a hour I noticed my hands tingling. While riding the bike I lifted my hand of the grip and just rested it on the bar to get a feel for the vibes coming through the bars. Man, I was surprised how much vibes come through.

This might explain why after a long ride my hands tingle. I know what you're going to say, dont grip so tight, grip with your legs and so on. I already do that (most of the time).

So my question is, are the newer 636's/10rs so vibey through the handle bars? I used to have a 6r g1 but can't remember for sure.

Bike is going in for 12k service on the 30th so will chat to them down the workshop too

i have the same model 04 and has the same problem. i left it not far from the kitchen for about 3 weeks and didn't ride it at all and the vibe got really bad, and i thoguht i must be the sticky kitchen oil got stuck to the bike somewhere and gave it a good clean and after that the vibe seemed to ease abit but it's still giving the minor annoying vibe thro the handle bar and i then thought it'd be due for a service as it was approaching 12k service

and had the 12k service done 2 days ago and spoke to the machinc and he said nothing wrong with it but the problem is still not fixed!!!

the real short answer is "......They all do that Sir...."

This one has been discussed a few times, if you do a search for 'Handlebar vibes", watch the search function hit meltdown as it returns *a whole lot* of results.....

You can ask the mechanics at the 12k service to check the tension on all the relevant bolts in the st/head / handlebar regions, that might unearth something ?

Throttle body balance? Mine was apparently out by a bit and it's a lot smoother now...but then I never had a vibe problem, it just felt a bit rough recently.

I've noticed it on my '06 ZX636.
Haven't had any progress on fixing it yet, though.

Mine is also going in for a 12K service this week, so I'm going to mention it too and see if they have any thoughts.

I am in the same boat as Cath...when I rode to Newcastle last weekend it was especially noticeable on the long stretch of the freeway...kept having to take my throttle hand off and give it a shake.

numerous things can cause vibes

one that plays a fairly big reason for it is throttle balance , get them to do the throttle balance at the 12k service

If it is inherant to the bike then you can get foam grips.
Work a wonder on the old Duc.
And spare a thought for me when I ride the MIGHTY (tm) NSR150SP.
I only need buy a short white and buy the time I get to the table I have frothed my own cappacino !!!!
Not ony that it sends your ars numb too. Might come in handy for when Stace gets my ars at the Island !!!

Happens to me on the treadly all the time - I don't reckon it's engine vibes??

Wow, so it doesn't look like i am alone on this... i will get my 12k service done on the 30th and give you guys some feedback afterwards..

Its funny cause I knew the 6r was not the most comfortable bike and that it only likes smooth roads, so when anyone says, lets go for an all day ride out I cringe at the idea.

Will get a loan bike on that day, so will be experimenting with the feedback through the bars from that 1 too. I did ask for a 10r, but they said no

I remember when i got mine it was like that so i changed it and is all good now but it wasn't cheap.

Had to be a sadist it rode like a billy cart but a few dollars later and i can ride it all day well i do actually.

Try a steering damper that seemed to help and if you can ride it useing your back rather than locked elbows that helps too ( i know you have heard it before).

The first thing i do these days if it requires more than gentle steering is bend forward tuck my elbows together and push......might have had to have done the cornering and braking course to get the technique right but theres no weight on my wrists or elbows.

try add more rebound.

I remember when i got mine it was like that so i changed it and is all good now but it wasn't cheap.
