Engine swap?

I've just had a price on a water pump for my 89 gpx250.

For not very much more I can get a complete engine from a 2000ish zzr250.
My question is; will it fit? I know they are basically the same engine, but will it bolt straight into my frame - or would I need to modify something?

i would keep an eye out for parts on ebay or try the USA ninja250 site , sure there will be someone with something at a decent price

Is $500 a good price for a complete engine? The cost to rebuild mine exceeds that anyway...

i had a look around for mine, 500-800 is an average price for a decent condition 20-40K engine, 900 bucks gives you a top notch engine in great condition.

but yes... id say aim at 600-700 bucks or whatvers in good condition.

The water pump is $330 on its own, cam chain $80, rings $121, then gaskets and everything brings it to nearly $700 and then I have to put it together. This was 'supposed' to be a cheap bike to get me through my L's and I'll be on my P's before I even get to ride it if I don't get a move on.

Yeah, the outboard mechanic. :D Anything we should look out for? Apart from that seal in the waterpump. I know how to find that now.

No. Its out of the bike and sitting on a shelf. I would hazard a guess that the engine wasn't the reason it was scrapped. I saw some of the plastics, esp. the tail.

If you can have the motor fitted in a couple of days, you will get 28 days to check the warranty  Get those spanners spinnin' !!!
