dunlop GT501's

Postby WRT_GPX » Wed Sep 20, 2006 5:09 pm

ok, so i might need to get a new front soonish, i have like... a cm of tread left, and its probably better to do before my trip in january, although by then ill probably need a rear too...

im just wondering what you think of dunlop GT501's since they definatly fit my budget (the a front is 100 dollars flat...) and keep in mind im using them for commuting and touring so im not looking for the best performing tyre, wear life is more important to me...

Dunlops will last you ages...........dunno about your fairings though
The amount of contact patch your tyre puts down you really do have to ask if the $$'s saved are worth the risk of a front end slide ??
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

im wondering if thats what happened to the person that had the bike before me... or if they were just that retarded they couldnt keep it upright :x

but yeah its got shitty tyres on it now on the front (some worn out 100/somthing pirellis) they look like a generic/touring tread too.. not a sport tread.

i actually think i have the GT501 on the rear new from the shop... dunno ill check tomorrow... but its a nice tyre still, just for commuting and stuff...

mate, you're on a two fiddy, as long as you're not getting race tyres you'll get pretty good life.

I wouldnt even dream of touching touring tyres on a 250. Might as well go for some reasonably sticky tyres, they'll last ages.. You dont have enough HP to rip em up

i actually found the gt501 rather good on my gpx750!! actually seemed to help cornering a bit better than bt45's

some places fit for free inc removing the rim and putting it on the bike. Others put a fitting cost on the top for the removal and refit of the rim, but will put the tyre on the rim for free. Often (especially if you've not got a centrestand) its worth the convenience to pay the token $20 just to get them to do it for you.

yeah for 20 bucks i would. it turns out the rear is a newish GT301 (well with 3000 of my own km on it now) and the front is a pretty shagged Pirelli MT75, so i might go for a new GT501 for the front. just one question, the tyre they suggested is a 100/80 whatever instead of the other brands which offered a 110/80 i think, from another thread i saw this would increase tip in, but whats the drawbacks? less grip in corners?

just means a narrower front tyre, which would run flatter and im not too sure how it'd fiddle with the tip in. might make it corner a bit flatter i think.
