hep

when my little zzr 250 is in neutral and i hold the clutch in the engine sounds fine but once i let the clutchout it makes a knocking noise.

Is this normal or is there a serious problem about to occur?

any ideas would be appreciated

don't know about the ZZR's but my 9 generally has a very noisy clutch when in neutral idling.

I never noticed that on my GPX, which has the same gear box.
Don't know what exactly might be wrong though, but I'd be getting it looked at.

Mine does it a little bit but it's hardly noticeable. Its just a change in engine noise really. I dont think it's anyting major but if you're worried then you should take it to the dealership and get a mechanic to have a look at it. Will probably rape your wallet though.

Every car I've been in makes some kind of noise under the same conditions. Normal. Don't worry about it.

ok here's a basic rule about kawasaki engines.
If it is a gpx or uses the same engine, it will have clutch noise, this is a fact. Depending on the individual bike it may have it only when cold and first starting (my el250 demonstrated this) or may be when warm too.
some do it with the clutch engaged, some with it disengaged, some both. mine did it wiith both at very low revs at cold.

The noise im referring to sounds like a deep clunk clunk clunk that sounds like its doing it once per revolution. Sorta similar to the clatter of a dry clutch system (ever heard a ducati or a guzzi?)

If it's only started doing this (as opposed to 'always' having it) the first thing i'd suggest is an oil change if you didn't just do one as these motors are super narky about their oil changes being every 4000km maximum, 3000km preferred. and then if the noise continues get it checked by a mechanic.

But from general experience a clutch noise not accompanied by unusual behaviour such as clutch slip or burnt oil/eating lots of oil = nothing to be worried about, just be mindful of :-)

Yep I agree - nothing to be concerned about. My old GPX250 did it and a couple of my mates' ZZR250s did it too.
Make sure you keep it maintained (regular oil changes) and you'll be right.

My GPz two-fiddy does it as well. Can't remember if it's always done it or a recent thing, but it's got fairly new oil in it at the moment.
