Z750 front end conversion to Gixxer 1000

For general Technical and Performance Discussions

Postby robracer » Tue Mar 13, 2007 3:18 pm

Hi Esie I was in the same situation as you & decided that spending $700 on the front end for good internals... well why not go one better.
I will give a full report once I can get out on a twisty bit of tar so for now its punting round the cit.... from first impressions it is plush compared to stock the bumps are soaked up & a local fast roundabout was nailed this morning with alot more ease than usual.
Compared to a trade up to the 07 this is better & cheaper.
& mate if you are ever down this way it would be a pleasure to let you loose on her

Wow! Great job mate.

Its really good to see people jump in and fix what they dont like on a bike instead of buying something else. That will be one very nice bike, I got the Ohlins shock and got the front forks rebuilt, but if i had the time and nouse that you have obviously got I would have gone the front end like yours. You are gonna love it once you get out to play!

Thanks Matt you are right about loving it! its awesome I am still fiddling & trying to dial it in but this is half the fun, it has really made me concentrate on exactly what the suspension is doing & try to nut out the subtle differences that can be had. My only prob is I am far from an expert & will still go to a pro like Terry & probly find that all I am doing is wrong but at the end of the day I can learn more & gain practical experience about the ins & outs of suspension & set up :D

i didnt read all 4 pages, but wot kinda cost was involved??

i considered a zx6r front fork swap (appparently fits str8 in) but it will require new calipers id say, and one thing i like abt the zed 1 is that its now using nissin 4 pots..much similar in looks to the cbr929 i had, and i kno they work great!!

Bout $1300 for the front end..... went Gixxer cause the internals and brakes were better than the previous model Z1000
I compared spending $700 upgrading the 750 internals but this swap was a better choice bang for buck & the brakes are insanely good compared to stock :D

Full report to come soon about set up.... just got to do it first

Neka I suggest you check with Wattie, he has done a bit of research & might be able to come up with suggestions.... he has frequently pointed out another forum with conversion hints but I cant find the details :?

apparently hayabusa forks go in pretty easy.

rob did pretty minimal work if you ask me. except for the front fender.

Here's a link to just about anything that you need to know. You can start there anyway, I got my parts mainly off ebay, just the axel spacers and brake caliper spacers here if you need them. I got a price here in Australia for just the forks 1200 dollars, haven't spent that much on the whole bikes suspension yet.

When doing this mod, it depends on what year forks and shock you get, as there is slight differences, and you need to do slightly different mods.
