but unless they has been some changes in the last 12 months, I don't believe the Bridgestone slicks are as good as the Michelins or Dunlops - on anything larger than a 600 anway....

I used to be a believer in the michie or loop slicks over the Bridgerocks, until I used a medium compound rear 250 gp bridgie on my ZX6F1, and it hangs on better, has a nicer edge grip feel, probably a higher grip threshold, and in the short sprint races we do at club level, 5-8 laps, was unable to overheat it. Impressd I was. Wear characteristics are great, with the grip level only tapering off in the last 20% of the tyre life.

I had some isues at Winton at the 4th round of this years interclub series, in the first race, the last two laps, the rear tyre was sliding ENTERING the turns.

I pulled in to the Bridgie truck to tell them their tyres were crap :x Only to discover that the spring had unwound itself and I had NO rear preload, and the spring was half a turn from coming off  In addition to that, the swingarm had pulled fwd on the RHS by 35-40mm

Sooooo.....after setting some static and rider sag, and straightening the wheel  I went out again, the tyre cleaned up straight away and worked perfectly from there. I then used that same tyre to do the last Hartwell round at P.I. and then another practice day at Broadford, before I ditched it, and i am a person who discards them sooner rather than later. As i am not that good, I really rely on grip

Hence I am impressed with the new Bridgie slicks too. But your right, as I am not sure they are the business on the bigger bikes. But they have made great leaps fwd in the last few years.

I tend to run bridgies for a few reasons when racing.

1. Affordable
2. Acceptable grip/wear/handling/feedback
3. Support from the Vic Dist Raven. They are mostly at the meets, even the clubbies, and deserve my support for almost that alone. :)

 get into it boys

Had a wake-up call from the dealer today- my front 208 is not 60% gawn, or 80% gawn.............its totally fucked  well there you go, it looked OK to me, and still felt fine, *some* tread  , but no wear-marks left

and they didn't have any plain-jane Corsa's, just the Diablos, and the service manager reckoned I would be back in inside 2 months looking for another rear  , so he fitted up a Pilot Power instead........felt nice on the *easy* ride home, will be interesting to see how it goes on a *refreshing* scratch with Team Crim 8)

- and the tyre dude also managed to convince me to get a matched front !!!! (he is an old school-mate of Fab's  - and being old-school he understood my 2-for-1 whinge.....), but these new bikes mate, they chew up fronts as quick (sometimes quicker) than rears........

so its a new front as well on Thursday......mmmm, hope I have scrubbed it in OK before Friday arvo

the last Michelin I had was an M48 on the back of the Zed, back in '96. This was the tyre that 'flat-spotted' pretty badly at 145k  on the way to the Rage Rally.........it was a great tyre, almost brand-new.....

Old mate tyre-dude is one of the quickest riders at the dealership, he recommended the Pilot Powers highly, reckons I should get *reasonable* wear out of the rear.....

already noticed a couple of things.......its a 190/50, so with a lower profile, the gearing is already *different* (only a bit, but I could see the difference on the tacho.....), and it steers heaps nice  even with the bucket-of-shit Dunflop  ( wow, I am a convert already) on the front.

Will keep you posted.......

I got 8k's out of my last rear on a ZZR12 heavy bike lots of HP only had a couple of self induced moments, for a sticky tyre I think that is very good mileage.

Typical scrape btw and get underneath ya bike and see Dave, it will make ya think wtf.
I am gunna be the usual smart ass here and say this, a 190/50 has a lower height ratio than the original 200/50 tyre and I am sure that is something you would or should know but these bikes have a small clearance issue to be said at the least. It might have a bit to do with ride heights correct springs and sags as I don't have that problem anymore after setting mine right, that could also be that I now ride like at cruiser pace as suddenly everything has just got older in my body, vision, stage of live or is just me being a pissweak prick
