About time I did some maintanance!

I have used a split link on a 250 but would go for riveted on a 600 or bigger and watching it being done its not tat hard to do either.

Just need the tool which no one is going to buy to do the job every couple of years and a decent punch.

on a 03 / 04 6r its a 32 mm socket you will need for the steering head nut the axel bolt and the sprocket nut.

Better go back down to the bike it threw a hissy fit at work today and needs some adjustment.

The moral of the story is if you are down at the tyre joint and they let the kid near your bike push him out of the way and show him how its done, its quicker and you wont have to fix it later.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I really hadn't spent enough money on the bike, so I decided to order a new rear tyre for it. That way, it should make the trip up and back without having to change a rear tyre. Just makes it easy, as often some shops don't have what you want. So I booked it in for Friday for a new Rear M3. So this Sunday, I may get out and try and destroy what remains of the M3 that is on it now.

I did some more playing in the shed this morning before it got too hot. I replaced the chain and both sprockets in preparation for the Snowies-Supers-Snowies ride. In hindsight after removal cleaning and reinspection, they would have gone the distance, but as I am not into riding when things arn't spot on, and guestimating that the riding could be .......errrr............challenging, I felt it wise to replace them all now. I didn't even do my usual of turning the front sprocket around the other way

After removing the Ventura rack mounts yesterday, to see if it would fit a mate's 6 of similiar era (it didn't by the way) I have decided to leave it off for a little while and just use my little tailbag or tank bag. It's now on the sporting side of sports/tourer!

Oh, and after Broadford, I have bid on some rearsets, and a Pipe! If I get them for what I bid, I'll be surprised, however I refuse to spend big dollars as I am not doing it for anything other than more clearance, and the knowledge that not too far down the track the 9 will prolly become a New Era racebike! And I am going to make a set of braided lines for it also. I wasn't going to, but the braided lines do feel nice! :)

It may pay...just to be on the safe side.....to run it past young MH's place to sort it all proper like before you head off. Can't be having you wingeing n bitchin about the suspenders not suspendin mate!

Now, don't forget to retune the flux capacitor for the southern climate mate. As you are trailering it down it might pay to do it prior to leaving, that way she's ready to fire up as soon as you have refilled it with the southern latiitude fuel! (Don't worry Gos' have some in the 4th dimension)

Those new rim protectors you fitted, what flavour are they mate? Are they those new road compound ones?

Thinking about the Supers trip, I figured even taking as many twisty roads as we can, there will be transport sections. So I refitted the cruise control today in anticaption! You watch em all give me shit till I am riding along on a cop infested transport section resting my throttle hand off the bars

I have also decided to refit the rack and turn it back into a tourer. It's ugly and cuts 10kph out of top speed, but it's just oh so handy!!!!!!

Just refitted the rack, so the 9 is back in full on super tourer mode in readiness for the supers run. My top speed will be restricted (yeah just like the 12's) to 2.8 mega gazelles now rather than 2.9 mega gazelles! (according to the playschool clock only).

Not to worry, I think the tin tops who matter are only able to manage about 2.4 mega gazelles before they run out of breath.

So, now I am all ready, newish tyres (just a track day and a short ride) A new Kurt Cobain and new Davey Crockets, as well as new front pads before the ride day and a full service! It's all good! Now I just gotta try and keep up with the rest of em

I've had the clip come off twice so I put some epoxy glue over it the third time and haven't had it happen since.

I slipped down the local today and picked up an oil filter, some oil and some rear pads. I have a new set of front ones in the tool box. Tonight I am going to spend an hour in the shed and do a minor service and change the front and rear pads and shout it some new brake fluid!

I can't remember the last time I did it, but it must be at least 5k ago so it can't hurt. The rear pads have about 1000k's left in them but I am just going to do them all at once. The only thing I didn't get was head stem bearings. But I may subbie that job out!

I also used the angle grinder chain splitter technique and the vice grip clamp technique (although it says not too). Never had any probs in the past.
Has anyone actually had a split link fail.?

Only ever had split links on the RZ500GP.. none failed.

All my dirt squirters have had split type links ... no probs

The only ones I have seen let go weren't fitted the right way around / pins weren't properly lubed during fitting (siezed and failed) or just plain weren't squashed enough for the circlip to locate in the pin grooves(ie o/x ring chains ) :?

10 runs rivet link so thats what I'll stick with (got new RK breaker / joiner 4 under $100 -ebay).
