far. that nothing my old piece of shit k2 gsxr600 dropped five values at 14,000 rpm. now that was a messy $5k damage. i saw the light and brought me a 05 636 ninja.

What happens when you install higher-lift cams, with *generally* longer duration, and the valves 'clip' each other at high revs, because the engine-builder has not used slotted cam wheels, and ensured that the valve overlap does not cause the valves to touch each other *at high revs*....

To stop this, the cams need to be dialled in very carefully, the amount of carefulness is directly proportional to the extra lift/duration of the cams fitted....

I have never heard of valves touching (clipping) at anytime
and I have fitted quite a few engines with different 'hotter
(higher lift longer duration) camshafts (on cars and bikes)

however
there have been a few instances where larger valves were fitted
and the top edge of the block had to be notched out
to allow room for the valve (the bigger valves are wider
than the bore)
or I fitted 'notched' or recessed top pistons to allow room for the valves
because they travelled down more (higher lift)

Valves that touch each other while moving would be a bugger to seal
as their seats would overlap each each other

the only time I can foresee valves touching whilst in motion
could be on engines with very large hemispherical heads
and the examples I can think of (Ford 'shotgun 429 or Chrysler 426 Hemi)
have their valves positioned so it can't happen (irrespective of revs)


interesting phenomenon to think about though :cool:

my ol' 87 GPx750r used to go 13000 without a problem
(me remembers Phantim going over 14 thou with his :twisted: )
and thats on an engine thats nearly 20 years old

glad you saw the light and bought a Kwaka
