ToolBan check muahahaaha must be a Tool overload at Port Douglas !!!

yes, only 3 BP's, and none in Belconnen :x :x I don't get to use the BP Gold that often  , glad the local Caltex is now serving up Vortex 98. Will be working in the city soon, maybe will get to fill up with BP Gold a bit more often.

Can anyone out there remember when BP did a 100-octane, that was only available at a special stand-alone pump at selected outlets ? I am going back a couple of decades here, cannot remember what the fuel was called, but I do remember that every boy-racer with triple SU's in a LJ torana would only use this stuff ??? has been gawn now for a long time...

ummm, I do :o
and it was every boyracer with triple Webers
..in his LJ Torana, like mine
(mine was a 4door, no spoilers and I used to go GT Falcon hunting  )
btw
Ampol made a brew too
and
when the servos stopped selling it, the airport used to have a line of cars buying avgas (105 or 110 stuff) before heading out on a Satdee night..
for a bit of fun, if you get my drift

so Yoda, you are old and wise as well heh    that is a lovely 4-door mate. Those were the days !! My first tintop was a HT Monaro GTS yeh baby, 308 with a 2-sp Powerglide - Mum took an absolute sideways borrie when I rocked up the driveway at 17 yo with this burbling monster !!

but what was the name of that special BP brew ??

triple webbers mmmm I have a set of 40mm DHLA dell'ortos to fit to one of the 1100's, it should go pretty good with those fitted.

cheers

Vortex then bp ultimate but any sort of pulp will do I have even used optimax but burnt the whole tank immediatly.

The dyno guys reckon theres something in optimax that brings a tear to their eyes and a burning sensation in their nose but not quite as bad as bp100.

Any pulp seems to work in a fuel injected bike carby models might be fussyer.

my guess is that would be the 3.3% benzene that Shell use in Craptimax as an octane booster. Its a pretty well-known carcinogen.....

woohoo Dave..
luv them Monaros but no auto for me
Saginaw 4 speed behind the 350 and 4 pipes out the back
but can't believe I drove it with Goodyear Polyglass tyres
and never hit anything

the fuel? known simply as BP100 here in Vic

and carbs?
from memory, they were 48mm dual choke DCOE Webers (3 of)
and a bastard to tune & get right..finally did and that Torrie made
165kw (222hp) at the rear wheels on a dyno.
It also had a 140 litre fuel tank in the boot 8)
fuel filler on the 'C'pillar ..not between the lights as usual

cheers

Goodyear Polyglass ?? brrrrrr ugly scenes - jeez I loved that old Munro, it would pull almost 70mph in low gear, and 100mph+ in top :o 220+HP is pretty good  for a red motor !! strewth my old 308 HQ van only dynoe'd at 190 RWHP.......with a 650DP Holley etc etc,,

Mick - I haven't been past Jamo for donkey's .....well not since Dr Bruce moved out to Mitchell  thanks for the tip. I need to get out more :?

not your standard red motor....
along with the Triples, a red 202 block out 60thou with a knife-edged counterweighted 'blue 202' crank ..nitrided and balanced, lightened and balanced steel (not cast) flywheel, L34 V8 conrods with Cosworth forged pistons, angle cut modified Yella Terra head with triple valve springs and roller rockers, modified XU1 front harmonic balancer and retainer, modified (by me) Holden V8 oil pump, XU1 sump with baffles and I added a windage tray and as well as alloy straight cut timing gears, a camshaft of my own specification but based on the XU1 series II racing camshaft
but with greater lift and duration (it idled at 1200rpm  )
plus a set of portmatched stainless steel HM XU1 racing extractors
into a 2½" stainless zorst with NO intermediate muffler
all that....
made 165rwkw @6800rpm on a chassis dyno (during tuning of the Webers) and was happy to about 8000.....

not your standard red motor

cheers

holy smoke   mate they are some impressive specs !!! I am glad my brother-in-law isn't reading this, he worked in an engine-building shop for over 20 years ( ex-Repco), and has built a stack of good red motors, I am sure he would like these spec's !!! good work :D

Dave
what i didn't say is...
that engine was the end result of about 4 years work and
8 failures...yep blow ups :x
i got to know what worked with Holden 6 red or blue engines
and what didn't ..I even had a display shelf of broken bits
also
I had some help.
I worked at Holdens and had the finance management responsibility for the company service garage. So what you might say?
at that time, the guy running the Holden service garage previously used to run the Holden Dealer Racing team after Harry Firth quit...his name was John Shepherd. He knew Lots about Toranas
and finally
the Torana..the whole thing was built by me. I paid $50 for a partially burnt wreck and did everything, even the spray job in my garage
see pic..yep thats me with spray gun
and yes thats carpet on the floor!

cheers
