I dont Think It would be Valve clearance Unless they are too tight and holding a valve open i am only guessing but i would assume you have shims in which case they will only get loose and create excessive clearence and the cam will still open the valves correctly if you do have screw and locknut adjusters they can work loose and tighten or loosen but problems seldom happen suddenly and again only if they close up clearence or the locknut works off and jams up in your timing gear in which case you will really know about it
If it aint broke don't fix it just gain more horsepower

Problem solved, put the bike back together and it goes properly, did nothing, not sure what the go is but back on the road so happy days! thanks for all the advice

Nah, I think it may have had something to do with when I was fixing the chain I had it revving pretty high on the stand in gear then I just killed it without bringing it back to idle (blame it on the beer!), hence I think I effectively flooded it (I could be wrong), then when I pulled it apart and disconnected the fuel etc I also had a heap of hoses (vaccuum?) disconnected which may have resulted int he FI reading. When I put it together again i think it may have simply been it was no longer flooded - all conjecture but will see how it goes over the next week or so.
