my 12 has had a similar, certainly not as loud, clutch noise since new..more of a grinding noise. My ZRX also had it.

It's nothing.

You will know if the clutch starts feeling like shit, you will need new clutch plates.

I have found i sometimes get nasty headaches if i forgoe earplugs, even though i have a rather quiet helmet. Mind you i started wearing them habitually almost as soon as i started riding.

p.s. if anyone wants to listen to music while riding (lower volume levels only, don't go undoing the work of the earplug part of the earphones!) look at this link ( pic) (Sennheiser version) as they both work fantastically as earplugs as well as being unobtrusive too).

the zx9 did the same, used to run fine until you went more than half throttle. then it used to shit its pants and run on only a few cylinders and sounded and went terrible. Replace the hose and it was sweet as!

i have a problem with my cam chain, my mechanic said its the tensioner, he is going to tighten it, it makes a rattle but no way as loud as yours mate, but my mechanic said, after he tensions it, the motor will blow next

$1200 for a new 250 cc motor!!! now please tell me he's exagerating a little bit, i've been told that the tensioners should be tightened every 30 000k's or so?

not sure how much he is charging aswell. but yeah, whats the thoughts on that guys.

cheers.

lol why would your motor blow next? ok it might if he does a crap job at the tensioner or if he resuses the same tensioner if your worried just replace your timing chain and tensioner ive been quoted $600 to do this oh btw i sold my bike i put it on ebay bloke was aware it needed timing chain changed i still got $3500 for it

are u sure your mechanic is qualified enough to know HTF to even adjust a cam chain tensioner? :? these are questions i would be asking my self before i getthe job done by this mechanic

lol its funny, he( my mechanic) tells me not to other listen to blokes or let anyone fix my bike but only a qualifiied mechanic, he has a point to some certain extent, however he seems to know what hes talking about most of the time. lol

He's a good mechanic, but whenever he tells me something its compleltely different to someone else who also has riding experience more then a few years. everyone is telling me different things so i don't know who to listen to if you get what i mean, he said he was going to take care of it. so we'll see how things go?

if also my motor blows, is there any other motor that i can fit to it, bigger then a 250cc?

cheeers guys, i hope the bike comes out of the shop well lol

mate ill tell you something now, im abit scared at one thing he said to me, he showed me on my bike that my chain is to loose. its at around 25 max mill play, he goes to me it should be tighter, he showed me a bike that has about 15 mm play, does that sound right? because the chain seemed abit too tight.

i had no choice but to take it in. either that or wait 1 month to get it fixed.

GPx250 manual (I know it's not a GPx) recommends 35-40mm free play. I think 15mm will rapidly knacker something. If you've got the owner's manual, it'll be in there too.

according to the service manual for the standard chain type i have the DID 520v2 with 110 link, the slack should be around 7-15 mm this is the service manual of the site in "gen tech talk"
also says "too tight more then 15 mm, too loose less then 7 mm"

and this is out out the service manual for the zxr250. i think that pretty much solves the question.
