I am happier than a pig in shat!

I was speaking with Wattie, the other day about a weird thing my bike is doing.
When there is some temperature in the exhaust (riding hard), I shut the throttle off and then open it again (getting back on the gas), the bike makes a 'popping/ crackle' sound out from the exhaust.
Wattie told me it was the KLEEN system that needed to be plugged up, as it was injecting fresh air into the exhaust (emissions crap) and causing it to ignite/ pop.
It makes me feel like more of a man when my bike 'crackles' and want to know if it is doing my bike any harm to let it crackle it's little heart out?
With the KLEEN system still enabled, is it true that it is hard to read correct AFR's on the dyno?

Cheers!
Daz.

hey deafwish.

i have a similar problem and i've posted a thread on the site earlier last week...

i was wondering... by disconnecting the KLEEN, did the popping or backfire stop...

some guys said its un vburnt fuel and some said the by changing the can it will disappear as well.

i would really like to know what action you took and if its worked.

thanks.

Glen wrote:The ZX10 does it like a bastard although it's more of a FCUKEN'BANG than a crackle. The first time it happens you get some real brown action happening downstairs but once your used to it it's OK. Handy for alerting cyclists on the Old Road that your approaching  (in a caring kind of way of course). When I eventually do my quick action throttle I'll probably plug it up.

Oh and mine's the slow one from the Dyno day

I know exactly what you mean, regarding the FCUKEN BANG!!, I fitted a pipe to my ten and was expecting the injection to cut out most of the horn sounding backfires I was used to on my old carby breathing R1. But that first time my 10 backfired, it was like a bloody shotgun!! I've gotten used to the occasional bang (usually happening on heavy engine decelaration and then some slight throttle).
The other bonus I,ve noticed is that my fuel consumption for the 10 has deteriorated (if that was possible..) getting abou 170kms from a full tank to reserve..

Hi guys,
I had a Power Commander fitted and it still bangs like hell.
It is simply the KLEEN system doing its thing.
If it bothers you, plug the system, otherwise leave it and enjoy the crackling!
It is doing no harm.

Being new to the 10 club, am enjoying the crackle, but would liek to know who to plug the Kleen system and the benefits/disadvantages of doing so.

Cheers

i spoke tyo the boys at Race Replica, and there opinion was that it does nop harm and a common thing that kwaka's have... no need to change or modify the Kleen System.

well i have my bike booked for a service real soon... i'll let them make that decision.

Assumng that it is the same as the 12
make sure you can put it back the way it was if you want to but, there is no need for Muzzy block off plates.
You only want to look at the bottom bit. These hoses go into the top of plates on top of the valve covers, just feed take out the t-piece (keep the canister etc just in case) and put a straight bit of hose in so they feed to each other. Hope this helps Mike its a real DIY.

i just used electrical tape and covered over the ends of those two pipes, instead of adding more pipe to connect them together. The benefits are that it gets rid of that crackling noise when u come off of hard acceleration. Sometimes there's still a little noise, most likely due to the fuel hitting the cooler air in the muffler.

I have a J1 zx6r, and i blocked off the airbox pipe too with electical tape. U get to take a fair bit of crap out, dosent weigh overly, but every little helps.

Hey Wattie,
What were the details and size of the irrigation tap you used?
Will go and get one, tomorrow.

Supposedly, the Kwaka's run cooler, when the KLEEN system is disabled.
Can anyone confirm/ deny this?

Cheers

I've removed it on my 12 and it does help with the popping. Doesn't run any cooler though, I installed a muzzy fan for that purpose and did some insulation.

Can I be a pain in the ass and ask for a picture of it?
I went to an irrigation shop today and they only had a massive looking tap.....
