I still havn't used a Racetech. I keep managing to find people who have stocks of Rennsports. However, the guy who originally put me onto these tyres, runs them, and says they are just like the Rennsports, but just a bit better in every way. So here are my thoughts.

The Rennsorts have a slightly sharper profile than the M3's with a much faster turn in rate. Bump stability seams to be about equal. Mileage from a Rennsport is 4500-5000, still havn't worn out the M3, with about 6300klms on it. Likely to get 7500 out of it, maybe a tad more.

Grip- Sorry, there is just no comparison. Ride the bike agressively and the M3's go walkabout at the edge of the tyre. Nothing life threatening, but disconcerting none the less. (Ask Tack, he watched it wander off at one point on a ride not long ago.) The Rennsports however, are just feckin tenacious. I have never slid them on the road that I can remember, and you have to be mental to get them walking around on the track too. :lol:



OK, had a New Racetech fitted to the 9, and took it down the ocean road on Sunday. It feels ........well.........it feels just like a feckin Rennsport! :lol: No difference really. I just couldn't fault it.


As an aside, on the way home from Lavers hill, there are some nice juicy big long sweepers which can cost upwards of $2.00!!!!! On one particular one which I was enjoying at a little bit more than $2.00 Dangerous Dave who was following me, says the M3's layed a wicked blackie! :lol:

Well I've just replaced my M3 rear. Thanks to lots of commuting lately and not much fun stuff (thanks ribs), the centre was the most worn bit....past the tread markers and pretty much at the end of the grooves. With the post new years rides coming up it wouldn't have made it

...so the info you're actually interested in?

6,653km and the front still has some left in it

I have done 4460 klms since leaving Melbourne on the 15th Of December. :shock: My nice new Metzler M3 rear has copped a rather large amount of high speed fully laden running and still has around 1500-2000 left in it. I am glad I put a newie on before I left as otherwise I would have got caught over the christmas day boxing day period with no rear tyre. I would guess it will last me till the end of the Snowies Donut ride. Then another newie to go home on! :)

Ok here's an update on the M3s.

7400km and getting a bit slippery now under aggressive throttle. :?

Still the best mileage I've had out of a sports tyre though.

Looks like I'll have to give these a go! Getting well over 12,000km out of the Pilot Powers though, so hopefully these don't burn up too quick.

Update! .........................I have now travelled just over 6000 klms on the tyres I fitted before leaving Melbourne on the 15th Of December. The front racetech is wearing really well, although I have stuffed 36 psi in it to get some mileage! :shock:

The rear M3 is a sweet little tyre. It's copped an absolute pasting the entire trip, all bar probably 600klms has been fully laden with one large and one small tail bag and a 14 story high tank bag! :lol:

Even after 6000klms it still grips well, and lays awesome blackies to boot! :wink:

I said at 4500 that it might have another two in it. However closer inspection today says it still has a mm or two before the wear indicators are touching the road, so I might get another 1500-2000 from it yet. Making 7500-8000 klms from it! That's like twice the mileage I've ever gotten!!!!!!! Mr. Metzler....love your work! :lol:

Yep well mine died at 8,000 ks and a new one has been fitted for mine and kazza tasmania trip later this month :D

Just put in an order for the M3s today after all this talk, I was considering the qualifiers and pilot powers, but they both get mixed reviews, the M3s have a pretty universal following. Downside is I have to wait a few weeks to get the right size front for the 636 though. The tread markers are about to disappear actually, hmm, slick...

MMMmmm...

I really want to try this metzeler M3 rear, can anyone suggest against using a M3 rear with a power front ?

I'm only due a rear for my trip to P.I.

I am not normally a have to match tyres guy but i had a power on the front with a m3 rear then put on the m3 front and in this case much better in a pair :D

I cannot stress enough the benefits of fitting a 70 profile front to your 636. Much better for road and track! :)

I'll check tomorrow Hoffy, I know the Pilot power front will work with a bt014 rear. But i dont know much about the M3 as "Cavemage" can't sell them. Have you thought about a Pilot Race there're a damn good tyre as well. If they dont clash on construction that would be a good set imho.
I'm going to see The Tyre Wookie tomorrow to price 2 pairs of Bridgie 002's for our trip for Kev's gumby & Tiggr.
I love the front Shinkie but it's not too hard to get the rear shinkie all mushy & messy. So I'll probably end up with something completely different to what i think. thats what usually happens & i normally end up ear to ear with whats supplied. 8)
