ninja 250 tyres ... posted up here just for general info and cos rob needs a new one and doesnt wanna go bridgestone anymore...

so far for me the BT45 (on my bike) is handling pretty well in both wet and dry... have been pushing fairly hard a few times in the dry and holds up pretty well...

Yeah Ill see what the dealer reckons but it wont be a bridgestone as there aren't any left in NSW for at least another 4 weeks!

Sorry but a dumb Q! Would I have an issue with the BT45's on front and a diff type of tyre on the rear? Dont really want to pay for a front tyre but if its not good to run two diff types?

Hey don't forget the good old Korean Shinkos! My rear shinko lasted about 12,000 km but was a bit shitty in the wet. The Dunlop GT301 I have now seems to have FA wear resistance. Seems to be over half worn in 3,000 km.

There's nothing wrong with mixing tyres front and rear. The front and rear already respond vastly differently in every respect, simply by virtue of the bikes design. Don't forget that in racing it's common to mix up compounds front and rear. It's probably wise to stay with the same type of construction F and R, but I think all the GPX tyre choices are bias ply anyway so you don't even have a choice.

Oh, I think you guys are talking about the new 250 right? I'm talking about the old GPX250, which was always called Ninja 250 in the US.

Yeah the 08 250... Its just that Im doing a track day on the 10th not that Im going to go ballistic as Im new to riding, but dont want to have in the back of my mind that its not 100% ok!

To ad to this now... Im getting a whole new rear wheel as a replacement for a tyre... Go figure?

can you fit a 150 rear on a zzr250?

thought 140 was the factory tyre...

130 is recommended for the ninja 250... id assume its about the same for your bike.... you could get away with 150 probably, not much wider tho....

Well what i have on my bike is a bridgestone bt45 on the front and the rear is a dunlop arrowmax , 140/70/18,front 110/70 /17, but recommented on the rear for it is 140/60/18, i was going to get a new rear before the ride day but won't be able now, my rear tyre will be fine .

Wasnt your rear tyre delaminating on our last Putty Loop ride? It looked stuffed to me...

No i found out that the rear is new when i bought the bike, i had to scrumb it in. The reason the tyre looked looked really bad was that the rear hugger was rubbing the top of the tyre, it started when i got the new chain and sprockets because the tyre got pulled forward , but it's ok now , just need to where down the patchy bit's on it.

I will put my vote in for the Michellin PR2's. great tyre, very long wearing and confidence inspiring on the twisties

Pitty they have gone to a 17'" tyre at last!
For those on the old 16" rims check out the Pirrelli ST66. At $130 a pair I reckon they are bloody good! Did alright around Phillip Island the other weekend. Warmed up quick and certainly have more than enough grip for the GPX / GPZ.

For ZXR250s, the gun tyre is a Dunlop. No-one's more surprised than me. Dunlop GPR A-10 (that's "alpha" 10).

For the new Ninja 250, the front's the same size as the ZXR, and a 140 should go on the rear ok. Might slow the steering a smidge, depending on profile. Giggle-inducing amounts of grip. Not brilliant wear, though.

Got my new rear wheel. Tyre is branded IRC... So Bridgestone front IRC back I think it will be ok as a commuter and the odd long run!
