Tyre recommendations

Hi guys - just after your thoughts re: tyres for the 12R.

All of my riding is on the street, but I have another bike for commuting so essentially the 12R is used for weekend runs and the odd trip here or there... plus movies, cafe posing, that type of thing.

I don't think I push it that hard but my riding has utterly destroyed the tyres that were on there when I bought it. It's some type of sport/tour Bridgestone... I think it's an 020 (I'm sure someone can tell me, based on the pic of the tyre?) but don't quote me on that as I've never really looked. Anyway it seems to be a medium compound and a tread pattern somewhere between sporty and pedestrian.

Have a pic of the tyre here after about 1000km so that should give you an idea of what it looks like now, after a bit over 3,000km. She's cactus. I have been quite happy with this tyre, the tyre shop around the corner recommends some type of dual compound Bridgestone thingamy which is apparently a bit of a 'one up' on what I've got witha similar compount in the centre and a stickier compound on the edges.

Failing a better recommendation I think this is what I'll go with.

A lot of people recommend a 190 over the factory 200 for lighter handling but I have no problems with turn-in or holding a line with the 200 so I think I'll leave well enough alone. Also a flatter profile 200 is likely to be better from a wheelspin point of view as currently it doesn't step out too vicilously whereas with an angrier profile I think a bit of that might be introduced.

Previously on my VTR1000 I ran Pilot Powers and they were awesome, but a mate with a 12R who tried them said Michelins were a bit squirelly on a heavier/longer/gruntier bike.

I just sold my 06 12 and the standard tyres didn’t make it to Phillip Island and back. About half way back they were down to the canvas and leaking slowly. I went the Pilot Powers with a 190 rear and they were excellent. IMHO.

Also heard the m3'S are good.

Harder compound in the middle and pilot power soft compound on the sides..

Oh and you guys reckon that tyre wear picture is pretty normal? Suspension could probably use a bit of tweaking but apart from that handling is great.

The 12 has a habit of making the rear tyre furry . Are the pressures ok. My rear got very furry on the way back from the island and got down to about 30 (leaking through the canvas).

i've also found your suspension will play a major factor in tyre wear, might be worth at least checking your static sag and adjusting the settings, or better yet, take it to a suspension tech who can sort it out for you.

Actually the Rosso is rated below the Corsa III's

They're more of Road Tyre with apparently a newly developed compound that prolongs tyre ware.

Im getting some this week hopefully so we'll know soon enough

Rossos aren't made in 12R sizes....

Go 190/50, or 190/55 rears....they are much more available and sharper turning. I love my 190/50, it feels much better.

Wheelspin you wont have an issue with, the 12's are pretty good at getting the power down, even at the track I have had no dramas.

I ran M3 on rear and was farken sweeet 180 of course, but highly recommended, so far done about 5,000kms on it and its about down to 50%, Never done any burn outs on it, but is ridden to both edges quite nicely! I love it though, when its cold rear end is a bit slippy, but once u get some warmth into, it grips nicely.

My mate runs PP on front and rear of his R1 and he tracks his bike often and blitz when he goes out and he cants speak enough about it!

Maybe I'll have to be ligther on my right hand, was famously sideways out of a corner the other day in first at about 80!!
