Throttle cables and brake/clutch lines questions

as most of you are probably aware, i'm a bit of a fan of bike butchering (ie. streetfighters). i've gotten my bike to the stage of popping my MX bars on it now, but i need to go and lengthen all my cables now :?

all the electrics are easy, they're well and truly long enuff, and the choke cable has just enuff length aswell, but the clutch, brake and throttle cables are not gunna make it :(

first off, does anyone know if there are any other model throttle cables that fit up to the ZX7R and are a little longer (say 10-15cm)? i know its a long shot, but i was kinda hoping to save myself going into a bunch of wreckers with my cables and comparing them....

next up, does anyone know if there are any other bikes with longer clutch lines than the ZX7R? or alternatively, is it possible to extend a clutch line using a small section with the same ends and a suitable bolt?

and lastly, does anyone know a particular model that has a slightly longer lever to splitter section of line for the brakes? its possible a rear brake line off something might work, but i'd guess it'd be a bit long and might end up being a bit spongey or something :?


i know, i'm a tightarse, but i just dont like the idea of forking out $120 ea for the throttle cables, $80 for the clutch line and $160 for the brakes if i can get away with it cheaper while i'm a bit low on cash....

You could get some hydraulic lines made up at pirtek or one of those type of places. Cables are a pain. the best thing i think would be to do the wrecker thing. You may have to buy a new switchblock to suit the new cables though.

i've actually sorted it all out :D

i had to pull the tank and airbox off to get to the throttle cables, and when i did, a couple of things jumped out at me. firstly, the reason that the clutch line wouldn't pull out any further was that it was jammed between the motor and the frame, pull it out of there and i got more than enuff slack for that. then while removing the throttle cables, i noticed that they came out of a hole in the left of the frame instead of the right, so i put it through the right instead and i got enuff distance (tho the snapback isn't as quick now)

and yeah, went over to ABS and got a longer line made for the brakes, $40. so if i had money and didn't bother looking at this properly, i woulda forked out $160 for a set of braided lines, $80 for a clutch line and $120 each for 2 new throttle cables..... $40 is sweeeeet as :lol:

not quite, still more stuff to do while its apart. i figured while i had the carbs out, that i might aswell give them a clean and make sure they're working 100%. might take me an hour if they end up fiddly, but the bike will be going today :D

A mate bought a set of longer cables/lines to fit his CBR when he did the strret fighter thing.
