Hi all
so started the ZZR today with a view to a quick ride tomorrow am.
the bike starts & idles without choke, but as soon as you touch the throttle it dies instantly, but will restart staright away.
I did notice the fuel tap was on reserve & I assume the honda rider did that as the gauge is nearly empty.
any ideas / thoughts appreciated. Hopefully its something simple.

Daft question but is the bike at temperature when it dies or still cold?
Tue Dec 31, 2013 6:44 pm
its at operating temp.
im guessing it could be a fuel residue issue - hasnt been out since August, mainly due to my health issues.
just about to go get some BP Ultimate, and will let you know if that helps

Still the same even with new fuel.

could try a fuel system cleaner. Nulon?

cheers.
its idling outside atm & the honda rider is tapping the carbies for me
is Nulon the best stuff to get? Or is there something else

I've only ever used Nulon. Sorted out fueling problems a few times. Imagine there are others.

Make sure the slides in the carbs haven't glued up , I had an fzr 1000 that hadn't been started for a while and the slides locked up from the fuel drying . Get some carb cleaner if they have and spray the slides whilst moving them buy hand . They will come free if that's the problem .

try a descent battery was doing a service on a baby blade on saturday the battery was stuffed would idle ok but but wouldnt rev unless it was hooked up to a good batt just give it a try jump it off a car batt and see what happens

Fuel has gummed and blocked the pilot jets in your carbs.
Common issue for a bike that sits for a long time with a float bowl full of fuel.
Try spraying carb cleaner into the float drains but 50/50 as to outcome, you might need to do a manual carb clean.

thanks all.
put some liquidmoly through the fuel system & went for a fair ride.
had to pull over & adjust the idle back down 3 times but bike was running much better at the end.
But after i let it cool, washed it & restarted it - it sounded like a two storey victa!
more riding methinks will help.
