On my recent track day, a certain instructor at Preston MCC followed me around on one of the sessions. Gve me some valuable tips and then in the pit area advised me that my lean angles were just about as much as the pilot powers can handle.

He firmly advised me to get something "better and stickier" than pilot powers which I have. I wonder what tyres he had in mind. My riding does not involve commuting at all now. I only do twisties and hopefully more track days.

I reckon the instructor is full of shit Vivek and your fucking delusional. :) The Powers will grip way past side stand lean angles. Once you get past that, then you can talk about more grip. I bet your not losing the front or back in the turns?? Then the grip is fine. learn to ride then start getting stickier tyres. Sticky tyres require sticky tyre speeds to get them into their operating range. You barely have the powers in that range now. When your starting to spin up the rear out of 12, then we can talk. Till then just by some normal sports road tyres of whatever brand floats your boat. Your not gunna exceed any of them. The instructor was stroking your ego mate. I'm telling it how it is!

Spot on, well said marty. Metzler M5's, road pressure's (cold air temp and 15 minute sessions with no tyre warmers) no issue all day.

Pilot powers

1.45's at EC on the 10.
1.49's at EC on the Z.

No warmers.
Powers are a great tyre for road and track work.

You'd get 5000km and 2 track days out of a set.

Notice the top 7 all scored over 8/10. Basically there's not really a bad tyre out of all of the hypersports tyres. The photos of everyone on road tyres on the track just prove what Marty is saying, espescially if you picked up on Phil's comment that his were running road pressures and were on Wakefield on a cold day which isn't known for being a grippy track.

Yep, there's not to many bad tyre's these day's, to me it all comes down to brand preference, brand loyalty, what ur used to, i run michelin, because thats what ive been using for more than 25 years, but thats my choice, not because i beleive there best, just what im happy with. but my track bike, only runs dunlop, because thats what im happy with. there all great in there own way, some grip more, some wear better, some are better in the wet.
But most of them are far better than we will use on the road anyway... michelin i like , because i get good mileage out of them, my 10 when new had dunlops Q's on it , great tyre, not good mileage... personal choice, pick any of them and they will more than do the job...
So the only queston is.. whats the best price for what u are buying, who's got the best deals??
