What do I need 2 do b4 starting my ZX9 after LONG storage?

Postby notso » Fri Oct 21, 2011 12:06 am

Hi Everyone,

I have a 1995 ZX9R B2 that due to the usual circumstances (lack of $, family, lack of $, busy, lack of $, hospitals/doctors, lack of $ due to hospitals/doctors) has been in storage waiting for some TL&C to get it back to roadworthy condition. I now have a little spare cash & some free time to begin working on her (the bike that is) but was wondering basic maintenance I should perform before starting her for the first time in 18 months? Again, I'm talking about the bike LOL.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I NEED to get back out on the road again before I go insane!!!

Thanks.

Drain the fuel from the tank and carbs and put some fresh stuff in, charge or replace or Jumper lead the bike. Make sure it has oil and water. Start it, get it really hot. At least till the fan comes on. Change the oil and filter as soon as it is cooled. Check all bearings, suspension, levers, brakes etc., are operating correctly. Change fluids there if you can. The chain will most likely be knackered from corrosion unless you prepped it.

Get a RWC and get out riding again! Good luck with it, I hope it stored well and is an easy thing to get back on the road for you. :)

Hi, I have the same problem but it's only been offroad for 5months. I completely forgot about starting it up regularly and the battery is now flat.

What is the best way of recharging it? Please don't laugh too hard at this question but can it be done with normal jumper leads and a car ?

Yep jumpers from your car will work, battery's done like going dead though so may not recover. Worth a try but :) trickle charger are a godsend if your not riding it often :D
anyone can go fast in a straight line,,,,
