Thermo check...

Postby zxsixr03 » Thu Sep 17, 2009 3:57 pm

What the best way to check my thermostat is still working, my fan does not come on full stop and not sure if i'm getting any coolant flow, so the whole system needs a good looking into.
Any advise?
Bike is a '06 ZX6R

Whats a new thermo worth?

Cheers

1994 9R was $59 recently.

You would be really be steaming/boiling if you wernt getting coolant flow, thermo fans take a fair temp to get them going above thermo set temp. if you pull out the thermostat it may be wise to have a new gasket/oring at hand and is a good time to flush through the system and put new coolant mix back in ;)

Best to get a temp probe and see if it opens at the temp number which should be stamped into the thermo body. Pot of boiling water and regulate the heat to open it and close it.

It may be the sensor is cactus not the thermostat, but worth checking them both.

Anyone if the ZX10R radiator is larger than the 6R, getting most of the new parts from a wrecker but might just grab the whole cooling system from the 10R.

The Kawi part nos are very similar, but just different enough to warrant checking.. :-)

06 zx6r - 39061-0042

05 zx10r - 39061-0041

06 zx10r - 39061-0060

Check the width and height and the ctrs of the mounting points to the top and I'll check it against whats in the garage.
The lower mounting is bendable alum rod so I wouldn't think too criticle..
