New ninja250 Break-in RPM

Hello mate. i just bought a new ninja250, the sales guy told me in the first 1000kms i should never rev the engine above 6000rpm but when i came back and red the manual it says ' in fist 800kms don't rev above 3000rpm'. then i found that if i change gears at 3000rpm it will take hours to 60km/h...

so finally i decided to do what the salesman told me to do (keep below 6000rpm) but occasionally it goes to 8000rpm. what should i do in the break-in period?

keeo doing what your doing... not too low and not too high!!! i'd stay around 4-7000rom with maybe the odd rev over that and then do that more regularly the closer u get to 1600kms... make sure u vary the revs of the engine within a sensible range...

Seriously, don't rev the daylights out of it (try to keep it below 8K rpm) and don't keep it at constant revs for a long period. Once it gets to 1000kms change the oil and then just ride it.

and here comes another quesion: sometime when i shift down from 3rd gear to 2nd gear the bike is like at neutral and i have to ease the clutch a bit to make it back to the 2nd gear. is there a problem with the bike or just because of my inexperience?

pretty much with all modern sports bike, keep the rev's between "Above idle and below red line"

I am not trying to be stupid either, dont sit on idle for longer than necessary ie; traffic lights. But then dont have it bouncing off the limiter!

Keep the rev's varying, dont sit on 1 constant speed for too long. Dont be afraid to rev it higher in the rev range you need to give the motor a good work over before first service.

, mine says don't rev above 4000rpm but anyway, i'm still in my "breaking in" period too and i've been mainly sticking under 4000rpm but i have to vary it a fair bit because of the area i live in (some hills, funny corners etc). basically i try not to even look at the taco and i just change when i need too depending on the road conditions otherwise i just get too paranoid and instead of looking at the idiots around me, i'm too worried about how many rpm i'm doing, though i have never gone above about 8000rpm (usually i'm around 4-6thou)

i've only been riding for just over a week (havnt even got my L's yet) and I havnt had this problem, i think you may mean that when you go frm 3rd-2nd it's not actually IN neutral, but when you use the throttle all it does is rev and your speed doesnt increase??? if that's the case, i was told a "trick", when you change gears, instead of just flicking your foot up/down to change gears and then resting it back on the footpeg, actually hold your toe in the position of the gear you want and then ease off the clutch before you move your foot back as sometimes you don't actually select a gear.

you should pull in the clutch for all gear changes, down and up ..they should move easily but sometimes nothchy because of the new bike..sometimes gear changes need good positive pressure, it's something to get used too..

I think Im having dejavu from another thread Stick to 8000rpm in the first 1000km, once its had that first service you can go further. At 4000 your just labouring the poor thing... More importantly eyes up watching the world around you rather than the tacho!
