Bent handlebar risers - Options?

Postby deafwish » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:59 pm

My bike has been down & my bars have always seemed to be very slightly turned to the right, when going straight... When the bike first went down, the handlebars were destroyed & were replaced with new items, so they can't be bent.
I had a bike technician advise me today that the stock rubber mounted risers are slightly bent & would need replacing.
What options do I have other than buying new risers from my local sdealer?
I have seen dirt bike risers on ebay for not much money. Will these work?
Any opinions welcome.

Cheers.
Daz.

Deafwish, I just went and had a look at the Zed I had prepared earlier  (sorry early mornings and humour maybe don't mix lol)

The mounts are different, I think the bolts aren't long enough through the triple clamp..

Thanks for the humourous response, Tanya! :?
Could I simply not use longer bolts, or the bolts my current risers use?

pull them off and have a look at them :) I think that's your best option.. I know what the risers look like for the dirtbikes..

I think it's just the bolt length unless there's something in it that I can't see

Is the riser bent or is it the rubber mounts ?

I had the same problem, got some "Scotts Solid Mount Bar Cones" and they are great, more feedback and less vibrations - AND the bars no longer look bent.

Hi Phil,

I have not managed to remove the left riser as I've stripped the nut! :x
The right riser looks to be off centre, but I'm thinking it's designed like that to sit flush on the top yoke.
PLEASE post the link & price of these mounting cone thingos! :)
Would be great to hear more about them, too.

Thanks

Daz.

Bump.
Has anyone else laid their bike down?
I'm interested to know whether the risers bend or the actual rubber bushes deformed?
I'd like to only replace what's broken & not have to buy both!

After stripping the front end down, I figured out that it was the rubber bushing! :D
