carbie flush

bike took a bit of trip and ended on her side, now she wont start. First thought is to assume that the carbies need flushing? Is this a straight forward kind of job or should I get some help? Well I'll be getting some kind of help anyway cos I dont know what I'm doing, but any specific hints and tips out there?

Just let the bike sit upright for a while & it should start

its been sitting upright for multiple weeks. also turned the fuel tap off to let the engine drain. definetely something more happening here. will also check the spark plugs.

Your carbies may need flushing if the bike has sat idle for a while and the fuel has evaporated from the carbs leaving only crud inside them, but it generally should still start. I'd be making sure you have fuel in the carbs, maybe even by pouring a bit down the throats then turning it over and seeing if it fires. There's only three things needed to make a 4 stroke engine run - fuel, spark and compression - it's unlikely you've lost all compression, so start by looking at the simple ones of fuel and spark.

If you still can't get it fired up post up some more details of the symptoms and how it behaves.

I had assumed it had just happened

Seems to be fuel. seems to have run ok when i switched the tap over to reserve, although i havent been able to take her back on the road yet, but she got into 12k rpm without any trouble after she had warmed i know that much. I guess I'll just try blowing the lines and tap clear and then see if she'll run off the main.

It's not just low on fuel is it? I don't mean to be condescending, it's just often the simple things that catch you out!!!

Lol I had thought of that too. The trip meter SAYS that there should be half a tank left... I have no intention of telling you whether a fill up fixes it or not

But if you've leaned it over, are you 100% sure you didn't have any fuel leakage from the tank itself? I'd go fill it up to be certain!

thats the way mate, keep anything that is self-incriminating......to yourself !! Works for me, been doing it for years.....
