kawasaki generic mod

there was this little mod that Ron did to my bike that makes the bike go alittle bit smoother, it's something got to do with the intake how it was taking dirty air from the exhaust or something

does anyone else recall?

Daresay you mean Kon? If he did to yours what he did to mine he bascially removed the pollution gear from the bike from what I can gether.

yes i did mean to say kon........i just wanted to find out what exactly he did....i don't understand why the bikes are designed with such a "fault"

Its not a fault just regulations for emission :o

Think of it this way HP, some 650's that are on the LAMS list have to have a governor fitted so they meet the power/weight ratio required by LAMS regulations. If you're in the know you can obviously get these governors removed and hence have a "normal" 650, same with the pollution gear, the bike has to meet a certain emission standard, this is done with the help of pollution gear. Once the bike leaves the factory and you own it you can do what you want to it :)

Except of course it no longer complies with the current emission laws. However misguided they are, they are there for a reason - just look at the air around Melbourne and Sydney on a hot still day. And if you think that's bad check out the air in Los Angeles or Mexico City.

I would think if you're pulled over by a half-savvy copper or the EPA you will be either be charged with breaking said emissions laws, and at the very least sent off for testing at the EPA.

I'm not a copper, and couldn't tell you the fine, but any fine is bad, and the air quality in our major cities IS shite :cry:.

You most definitely can not "do what you want". At least with cars, EPA laws prevent you from doing almost anything. Removing catalytic converters is a particularly big no no but somehow people get away with it.

It's not a design flaw and you're pretty naive if you think it is one.

The 2008 KLR650 has two holes drilled into the carburettor slide so it runs lean and comes under the power to weight ratio required to make it LAMS approved. Fill these up with metal filler or replace the slide and bingo, 8 more horsepower. Can't see it affecting the emissions a great deal, it's purely there to increase the market the bike is available to.
