you dont need a chain breaker, just grind off the pins and it comes apart, then belt the new pins with a hammer

Blah... the chain didn't come of did it... :-)

Lost one clip in 5 or 6 years... thats not too bad..

Never lost a chain..

I had a tyre puncture back on my ZX2R way back in the day. Took it to the closest tyre place I could find in Melb, guy fixed it pretty cheap. Didn't notice he put the clip on backwards. Rode home fine, next day, just turned onto the freeway on my way to work, and the chain decided to disembark the vessel at $1.20. Smashed the living crap out of my hugger, and if it wasn't for the hugger, I would've been in a world of pain.

I'd suggest Rivet. Just another thing you don't have to worry about.

i think people should , think how much HP gets put through that chain, then think about trusting a skimpy piss weak clip, the day i start useing that type of link, ill get me a rubber brake lever.

the 12 is the first bike I have had that has NOT had a clip together chain
so
I can say in 35 years of riding I have never had one 'clip type ' chain come apart
and all the time the chain fitter has been ...me

its probably cos u never ride the bike... hows the bike chain gunna fall apart if ur in ur car??

Nothing wrong with clips installed the right way round . They do not transfer any power , only hold the link inplace which is just the same strenght wise as all the other links . Bit like the split pin in the rear axle , its only there to stop the nut from coming loose .
Wonder how many circlips are in the engine and gear box doing the same thingas the clip on a split link ? Or that little bit of wire that stops the gudgeon from making a mess of ya bore :lol:

Clip links - used them for *farkin years* and almost never had a problem.......

Only once, did the retaining clip come off a chain - on a trip to Qld years ago, ProblemChild was pillion on a mates GSX, and the actual sideplate from the link piece hit him in the glove and he caught it !! The boys immediately rode up next to me, signalling to pull over.

No clip and only a sideplate.......until an old bloke pulled over to help, he twisted up a 'clip' out of .5mm copper wire, and that clip lasted the next 2 weeks fanging around Brisbane/Sunshine coast, and the trip home to Canberra !!!!!

he was santaclaus, then the chain on the gsx broke bout 30-40 k from canberra on the return trip :shock:
