Suspension swap - Rear shock 98 ZX6 to 2003 Z1000

Postby Gosling1 » Thu Nov 29, 2007 9:20 pm

as the topic says, I am doing a bit of legwork to see if a rear shock from a 98 ZX6 would possibly be a candidate for a 2003 Z1000 ??

Due to AussieNinja's recent accident, a nice Ohlins shock may find a new home in ProblemChild's Z1000, if it is a straight swap.

Any advice/help appreciated.

cheers
:D

For refference.
I just went out and measured up the 9 shock which *should* be similar - well they are the same between the 98 and 2000 models.
Distance between centres unloaded is 340mm.
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

prob of no use mate, but ive got the 03/04 KYB barra shock in my zed atm.... it was suppose to be a clean swap for the zed- it was abt 5mm longer i think..(cant remeber) ...but we bunged it in anyway...

how come u dont just measure the old zx6r shock, and measure PC's shock and see the difference?? im confused...i'd of thought thats what you would of done since u have both??

thanks boys

Neka - we did exactly that tonight, and the shocks look to be almost the same length at *approx* 340mm ? I was just after any extra advice about spring weights or if it would just be a bad match ?

Looks like we will swap it over on the weekend, see if it works OK, and go from there.

ahhh i didnt think of spring rates...

to be honest, it took me (yes, useless me) 10 min to swap mine over from a 03/04 barra... so bung it in there, and have a go .... if he dont like it, he can swap it back...

u kno the easiest way to swap it on the zed?? (u prob do but ill give ya the hot tip)...untighten top and bottom nuts, then simply put bike on side stand, get a strong mate to lifft the arse end onto the stand (u kno how ya spin the back around to park it)... then it should just drop out..piss easy...
