zx9r mods

Postby 98ninja » Mon Nov 26, 2007 8:29 pm

hypothetically
if i was to sell my cbr954
and if i was to buy a zx9r and have 3k or so to spend on enhancing performance
-what would the priorities be? engine? suspension? ?? ??
- what to do with suspension to get it to turn similar to blade?
- what year zx9r to buy?
- how much money to equal or exceed the cbr performance wise?
- i want a green one this time
99 zx9r - back

Priorities? Slip-on can, crash knobs, good tyres, ride the farker. If you're keen you can get Terry Hay to sort out the suspension. To make it turn like a blade and 7-12 mm of spacers above the rear shock.

What year? An F series ('02 or '03). It's a much nicer shape than the C (IMHO), has the braced swingarm, 32 bit ECU, 6" rear wheel and a revised front-end.If you want a green one it'll be an '03.

What horsepower did/does your blade make? My '03 has a slip-on Akra and makes 135 rwhp on a conservative dyno and pulls well from 5k rpm.

havent had it dynoed
blade has a yosh slip on
im told many dont get much over 130hp
i was looking at zx12s for a while
it seems silly to have a pointy style track bike to ride to work and on the weekends
sold my c model not long ago for 5k was desperate for money
im kindof missing its everything now and im making waay more money.
what kind of hp does a full system get on a 9?

My C series tracky has a full yoshi and makes about 132 rwhp. MadKaw's had a full Akra, an ignition advancer, jet kit, filter and some head work and made 150 rwhp. Phil's (at the time 113,000 km old) C series with a full Akra made about 131 rwhp from memory.

I don't think you'll need to do much engine work to match the blade for horsepower (though the blade may be a bit lighter). Stock suspension is on the better side of average, if fully adjustable and can be enhanced if need be. Do it, I reckon you'll love it.

my 929 dynoed between 138-142 with a slip on, depending on fuel and octane boost and air filter stuffing about (ex staintune race bike)..also had been blue printed or balanced or sum shit...

the 954 supposedly had 155hp (crank) ..or abt 135-140hp at the wheel ..much the same as what my bike had

sooo different to ride... the blade is lighter, quicker turning, better balanced for wheelies...

as much as id like to bag the blade..i cant... it was a wild toy...

suspension after the obligatory exhaust of your choice.........personnally i'd go the akra, look and sounds sweet and no need for a jet kit. mine has the stock carbies - no adjustment and runs sweetly. now has 123K on it.

with the suspension the ohlins 36PRCLS i can highly recommend, ask any of the guys who have ridden my bike since its been on. or the guys who we rode back from the supers with that saw how well the tyres wore after sum spirited riding with heaps of gear on.

gotta luv tha 9 ;)

Heres a thought.
The question was, buy a 9 and spend $3000 on mods.
Is outright horsepower as advantageous as handling?
Hypotheticaly what would be a better machine on a budget of 3 large;
1. Standard suspension + engine mods producing lets say 140 hoss's
2. Some suspension mods + some basic engine mods
3. Some suspension mods + standard engine + lightweight wheels

Know what I mean?
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

I would spend the money on suspension mods first, then head to the engine/exhaust mods if there was any change. I'd revalve and respring the forks by your favourite tuner, slip in an Ohlins/WP/Wilbers whatever your poison, fit some braided brake lines of some description and lastly either a full system and a rejet if there is enough dough available, or a slip on and a rejet!

I have a bit I could spend on my 9, but choose to leave it standard apart from having the forks revalved and the front and rear set-up to my liking! Unless you are racing it's probably more beneficial just to do more klms, spend the money on tyres!!! ;)
