That's because they are now internally lubricated and do not really require any external lubrication. Unfortunately you do need to apply something to seal out the moisture (the dreaded 'rusty chain' syndrome) For this purpose I use my own secret formulation of Teflon, furniture polish and avgas (ex chemical engineer by trade, don't ask).

does the avgas make the chain go harder?

Maxima Chain Wax, does not get TOO messy. And yes spray it on when you get home from a ride while the chain is warm.

As said earlier about chains now they are sealed. Best thing to di is actually keep them clean and free of grit. Then just something to give them a light coating.. I actually use a crc product called tac2. Seems to not make any mess.. Remember trick is to keep the chain clean..

i got belray and the chain wax, chain wax keeps the chain nice and clean, what ever you do don't get the shell chain lube though, sticky as fck, and i was cleaning my chain every lube cause all the grime that was getting suck on it. also wheels where black when i was using it... its not good stuff.

few posts about this in the past.
