fitting an after market exhaust

Postby Agent445 » Thu May 31, 2007 7:57 pm

Hi Guys,
I just fitted a bolt on termignoni to my 05 ZX10, It was not an exact fit to the bracket on the pillion pegs, I had to push the muffler up about 2cm for it to reach the bracket.
My question is.
Pushing it up those 2cm will it put to much of strain on the rest of the exhaust, and will this do any damage to exhaust?
I think it probably will not , but I would be interested to here your expert point of views.
Cheers

Hard to say without seeing it, although I doubt whether you could do too much damage. How come it didn't fit properly, not the right one for the bike?

If it hurts, you aren't doing it right.

Maybe you need to loosen the header pipes, (which usually means fitting new exhaust gaskets) prior to bolting up the end can. Try to spread the load over the whole system rather than just the end can & joint area.

Its the same on my ZX10Rs as well, slipon and full system. The weight of the whole exhaust system is only held on at the head and where that bracket is.

As long as its not on some weird angle that could damage the system you should be right.
