well is it leaking from a gasket or has it been bitumen surfing????
if its leaking from a gasket get a new gasket and tighten it but you dont have to break the socket doing it it is alloy you are working with so medium tight all round with a new gasket and its all good.
if it has been bitumen surfing i got one off ebay brand new for 150 and it got here from the states in a week.

Definitely drop the oil before you remove the stator cover. Yes they can be welded if the cover is cracked. I wouldn't use araldite myself... and if you're going to get a new one, get an aftermarket as the stock one's are weak as piss. -J.
I did the stator gasket on the honda last month, yes to dropping the oil. Fairly easy, took a bit of work cleaning off the old gasket to get a smooth surface.
should also add that if you are talking about the 6r theres something screwed inside thats held on by torx screws so u will need a funny bit to remove this.
I had someone else do it for me and watched his torx bit snap in half so there in there nice and tight.

Sorry, its for the Gixxer, and it has been bitumen surfing.... It leaks the tiniest bit of oil from a crack on the cover.
Steph didnt notice the problem until a few months ago because the previous owners painted over it, and the heat eventually peeled off the paint, and then it started leaking....
It must only leak when the engine is pressurised because it doesnt leak when standing still.
So what did you do stereo because mine has sprung a leak now after it fell over in the driveway, did you bog it, replace it, muffler putty it or buy a new one??
I have a rashed secondhandy about here somewhere but i think i will bog and order a nrc.

It leaks when the engine is running because the oil is hot and thin, and is reaching the level of the crack as it runs around inside the motor. It doesn't leak when standing still because its all down in the sump, nowhere near the crack in the cover.
You could use some Devcon to fill the crack, its like an aluminium epoxy resin that works great on crankcases, engine covers etc.

I just used some silicone on the outside of mine and do some more in the morning just to make sure.
I fall over in a parking oppsie every six weeks or so and cant find this crack without the engine running its so fine, time for the heavy duty engine casing recommended for kawasakis.
