Power Commander 3 USB fitted - WITH PICS!

Mon Jan 29, 2007 7:22 pm

Received my new PC3 USB from Superbike Supply today, in a neat little airbag. After 7 odd hours of boring work stuff, I got home and thought I'd try fit it.
I loaded the disc's program onto my laptop, found a suitable map that matched my current modifications, uploaded it to the PC3 (via the USB cable) and decided to upload the new Accelerator Pump Utility, too!

Once I had done that, I went to the garage and took both seats off and unbolted the tank. I managed to move the tank to the side to access the throttle position sensor and plug the PC3's harnesses inline with it. I then mounted the unit in the rear, under the pillion seat.

I plugged the laptop back in to the PC3, via the USB and started it up.
It starts! WOOT!
The display on the laptop shows throttle percentage, RPM and something else, that I forgot.....

I took it for a 45min test ride and was surprised with the outcome.......
Firstly, the low RPM ridability is phenominal. so easy and predictable. No need to have the clutch ready in case it decided to gas it, at the smallest twist of the wrist.
The midrange seems far smoother too, with the scary powerband at 7000rpm, being much easier to control and predictable.
The top end doesn't seem to frighten me as much as it used to...... Maybe this is due to the entire rev range being much more linear from idle to redline.....? I was used to nothing.....nothing....... nothing.....7000rpm - BANG!!!!!! Don't get me wrong, it still starts lifting the front in second and seems plenty fast enough for me. :D
I need to have a play around with this Accelerator Pump Utility to see how effective it is. Will keep you all posted!

Computer fitted in tail section......

..may still benefit from a Dyno unless you have a datalogger or O2 sensor at least. Are Z's open or closed system ? I thought they were like a 12 and you had to get them adjusted manually. If open then a dyno will just make it smoother again. Sweeeeetttttt.... While the PC is great unless you are going to stick it on the tank and change it on the fly  You are unable to download what it was doing under load (hence the dyno comment). It doesnt cost very much but (about $200 max). Do any other mods first but otherwise you will be going back again.
Keep us posted on the "acclerator pump" mod, have heard varied ideas on whether it worked or not.
