Engine swap?

Well I've got it in the frame. I put the whole unit - radiator etc straight in. All I had to change was the top radiator hose. Where does the clear tube from the centre of the carbies go to? I think it was laying behind the coolant expansion tank when I pulled it apart... but I've forgotten.

at a guess I would say that is the fuel inlet hose ? If it is a large-diameter (say 6-8mm), it is probably fuel hose. If it is the small-diameter hose (3-4mm), then it may just be a carbie overflow hose.

Does it point up or down when it comes from the centre of the carbs ? ( I don't think it would be a hose from the overflow tank :shock: )

No there is a t piece between the carbs on the airbox side and a clear plastic hose comes from that. The manual doesn't tell me anything about it so I guess its just a breather. I'd like to put it where its supposed to be. Don't want it catching fire or anything.

Yep, carbie breather. These *normally* route to a location behind and below the motor, so any fumes are drawn away from the engine area. There might be a small 'loop' attached to the very front of the swingarm, that the hose is meant to be routed through ? this places the end of the hose down low right in front of the rear wheel. If you can't find any other reference to routing this hose, then this is where I would put it.

Ok. done all that. NOW how do I get these bloody boots from the airbox to go onto the carbies properly? If I get one I can't get the other because I can't reach in between them and just when I think I've got it the other one slips back off.

Gently heat them with a hairdryer, then quickly slip them on.

Note gently heat them.

Cheers. I got them - after a bit of a row with the head mechanic. :oops: He thinks he's still at work, and everything has to be done like the customer is picking it up in 5 minutes. Me - I've got all day and if it takes that long for me to fix something it doesn't really matter.
Anyway we've got it all fitted up and it runs. No leaks, no rattles. 8)

those boots can be a bit of a bastard, be thankful you didn't have 4 of them to fit on like on my old gpx, now THAT was a headache (and a good way to ensure i'd waste a hour just on reassembly and grazed knuckles.)
