Mixing Tyres

After 6000kms the rear BT020 is just about shagged, but the BT014 front still has heaps of meat on it.

I've got the Pilot Roads that I swapped out for the new Bridgies for the PI run. The front is worn down but the rear has heaps left.

What happens if I put the BT014 front with the Pilot Road rear? Are there some drastic changes to the geometry I need to know about?
Cheers

Every case is different, but the example i can give is when i had an arrowmax on the front of my gpx and a bt45r on the back, it wouldnt tip in quite as well, or felt as stable as after i replaced the front with a BT45F.

This is even taking into account that the handling was pretty fricking ordinary by the end of the life of the front hoop.

I think the biggest problem is going to be the abuse you will get from Fab.!!!.. :-)
Like all these things if your commuting or cruising around it won't be too noticable but if you push it you will find its probly not the best option...

Yeah I agree with all that, still I cannot believe 6000km's from that rear  I know you were carrying extra weight? I assume you had the right pressures in it too.
What do you called almost shagged, how many millimetres of tread left?

Legal is 1.5mm, which is bugger all. I reckon I'm right on that in the middle. Remember most of this 6000kms is relatively straight country roads on the PI trip. Yes I was carrying extra weight, fully loaded with touring gear. 2 bags on the rack plus the tank bag, so I guess maybe 20kgs all up?

I think if the 6000kms was made up of weekend sprints up the mountain the middle wouldn't have worn down so quick.

Anyway as I said the BT020 did its job, was great in the wet and I'll be getting another one next time. Got another trip coming up at Easter, so the Pilot Road only has to last another few months.

I've got a Diablo on the front, and had a Pilot power on the rear up until a couple weeks ago, now I have a BT012 SS courtesy of Strika and she seems fine.

I was running a pilot race front and pilot power rear for a while.

I think it depends on houw "you" adjust to things, but it prob also depends on how hard you push.

I reckon it should be fine..... You dont really know until you stick them on there though... I reckon go for it.... Heaps of people mix their tires.... I used to run Michelin fronts and Pirelli backs... and it worked a treat...
