Avon Tyres

Thu Mar 09, 2006 8:28 pm

Hey, I was after some opinions about Avon tyres and haven't gotten much info from searching through here.

The local Yamaha shop was trying to talk me into a set of Avon Azaro tyres. They're apparently sticky, but have more tread on them, so they'll last longer.

Does anyone know or have any other comments to share?

When i got my power's fitted the tyre guy at bob jane '-marts in the city (Tim) told me that they gave him a set to try on his blade and said that they are brilliant. Not exactly up to the power's standard but the same as all the other's for sure. I was gonna get a pair but now i'm thinking i might try the new dunlop qualifiers.

not sure if this is relevant, but the Forgotten Era racers use to swear by Avon AM22's........plenty of the front-runners used them, and in 17" sizes as well.........everyone who used them raved about the grip (not sure about the longevity  )

could be worth considering ??

I remember a WA member (with a green 01 9r I think) had a set and commented on getting great mileage out of them ... dunno about grip levels though.

EDIT : I think the WA member was Flakey (sorry mate, mental blank)

I used to have Avons on my FZ750, they were Ok and went nice and pointy at the front.

Pointy??

What's that about?

I have the Avons on my ZZR1200. They stick very well. They are a heavier tyre than most, and need extra balance weights because of it, but mainly on the rear. Excelent wear characteristics. I use the AV 45/46 front/rear.

My next favourite tyres are the Michelin Pilots.

Haven't gone through a set yet. I have 6000km on the rear, including 2500km Adelaide to Perth., barely noticable on the tread.

After reading an article from "thewonderer" last week i found out that AVON have decided to have a push for market share in the sports bike bracket. Apparantly they come in somewhere between the pilot sport & the pilot race & the reviewer was very impressed with both the new models available for track and roaduse.
I'm waiting for someone to get a set & let us know how they go.
Linkie thanks to Martin

They'd have to SH!T Hot to get me to switch from "Th' Shinkie Stealths" though.
Cheers Brett
