Yodas new tyre, now group rides.

yep
and thats why you lot make me ride leader
and thats why everyone has come back in 1 piece
on our rides...... :)

Yes, you do a good job Ian, and how many people have got a speeding
ticket on our rides, as well.
They are designed for the whole group, all skill levels and to keep
everyone together. Thanks to tail end Charlie, Ron as well. Yes, we all
know you guys are performing a duty and can ride a lot faster than you
do on a ride. (As I've seen from both of you);-)

Whilst where on the subject.
I do have one dilemma with the Do's and don'ts of a group ride and don't
pass the leader. I see no harm in this and will continue to do it, so I
get the most out of my riding and enjoy the day. I enjoy the group
rides, but I get the urge, as do a few others, to take off for a bit of
a blatt, and catch up at the next meeting point. The main group is still
together, I have had my fix of fun (along with others), the less
experienced riders haven't been pressured to ride quicker than they are
comfortable with and everyone is happy.
Am I wrong in thinking this way? Should I organise alternate rides?

Cheers

Rob.
NB: Not really meant for this forum, but hey, you guys started :-P

My new boots are great thanks Rob ! ;-)
And I need a new rear tyre before I go faster ..
Talking about that I realy feel the rear slipping now that its worn and its not
just in the wet either.
I'll get on the phone now and organise that new tyre right now.

Oh by the way was that speeding fine mention a go at me ?? hahahaha
bloody 4k's over on beach road but getting it 2 weeks later sure helped save my
life ......nothing but a money making scam

hmmm
Rob raises some interesting points

having been out with other groups (MRA Ulysses and Netrider)
I find that we are not quite as rigid as they are..
Netrider and MRA groups follow rigid rules for group riding..see-
http://www.netrider.org.au/articles/?page=group_rides

me??
I have no problem..if the better or more experienced riders go off
provided they know where the next stop is.....
and can wait for us there.....
its a safety thing....
they can zoom off and have a bit of fun
but they are responsible for themselves

I see my job as leader to get the MAJORITY there in 1 piece
and home in 1 piece as well as enjoying yourself along the way...
real slowies get picked up by the Tailend Charlies...

if the group think I am too slow...I can speed up..tell me
but I won't lead the group 'over the limit'
I don't need 15 bikers abusing me for getting fines.....
and
I won't lead people at a pace that is dangerous.....
thru the twisties or if they have pillions
I do not want to make a 000 call for the air ambulance

so Rob
if you are content to ride part of the way with the group
and also have a couple of zoom zooms by yourself (or with Matt or Steve)
then
I wouldn't bother with other rides....
look what we did at Arthurs Seat on the last ride.....
went there the long way.....more twisties then let those
who want to...do a few runs up and down....seemed sensible to me
besides I get a chance to chat and socialise.... :)

my 2c

cheers

I did post it as a question, but it was really for clarification on how our rides work. I hadn't posted anything, when i saw the post about group rides and i thought this was an opportune time.
We are not like other groups and we shouldn't aim to be.
People have been unsure, if they can pass (because of how other groups work) Just getting clarification so other people and i know, you have options and choices. I was supporting you and i don't think it came across that way.

As i said, you guys do a great job, ride at a pace to accomondate and keep the wider group safe. You are capable of riding quicker, but you are dong your job and we appreciate it. I come along on rides because i enjoy getting out with the wider group and will ride most of the way with the group. I will have a squirt when i feel like it and if anyone wants to tag along, you can. No garantee's you won't get a fine either, so don't bitch at me. (no it's not a shot at you Mario) I will probably tag along if someone else goes for a blat as well. If i get a fine, or if i come off it's my own fault and i won't be looking for someone to blame. But if i do come off, please ring 000. Ive taken off through lack of will power and not lack of respect
I totally agree with following the same route, not go straight ahead at a certain roundabout, when your supposed to turn. Waiting at the next stop off point for safety, so everyone knows your OK. I think that is the least we can do.

NB: Just wanted to post it here Dan, in reply. You may wish to move it to where it should be now.

mate..no offence, I read it the way you meant it to be
which is why I responded the way i did...as in, I have no problem
with the 'zoomies' (you know who you are... :) )

because we are a more casual group.... (and despite the yoda tag)
it is not my place.... to go laying down the law
or telling people what to do....
however
as ride leader I CAN tell 'em where to go................
'follow me!'

Sometimes it can come unstuck though.
On the last Peninsula ride..the leader of the zoomies (who is nameless)
got to the roundabout in Hastings first...and stopped..ooops!
straight ahead? left? right?
I had to inch my way to the front..and point to the right
but
if that is the only hassle, I don't see it as a big deal

I have posted the Netrider rules link ...so everyone
can read it, but bear in mind..these are guidelines

cheers

Ian do you guys do this ?.:
The leader start out in the left track of the lane. The second bike is in the right track of the same lane, Quoted from Net rider.
I thought lead rider was generally in the right wheel track then stagger back from there ....
Other then that I agree mostly but also think the Zoomies should be allowed to play on there own if they stop every know an then.
Cheers Brett

now group rides.-bit long..

wot?? a discussion about actually riding?? wots goin on here??.nah i agree
mate, we have a theory over here, the slowest meet the fastest at the next
checkpoint...in other words jamie pisses off out the front & has 3 smokes
while he waits for us to stagger in...lol..but seriously, jase has an
occupation to protect, dru likes his bike in 1 piece, simon never turns up,
and me..well i dont kno the roads that well, and even if i did, i still ride
like a girl (no offence ladies)...but i agree with rob, on a group ride, if
u feel the need to ride silly, get out away from the group & meet em next
stop..this works for 2 reasons,
1.if u crash, they can pick u up
2.ur not as much assosciated with the group IF u do get pulled over,or cars
wanna abuse ya or woteva, and its only u to cop the blame wen u deserve it
(nobody likes to b blamed for others stupidity)
3.it also means ur well clear of the guys who ur riding with, so if u DO
fark up, u dont take ne 1 else down....
as long as the less experienced/happy to ride slower guys & gals kno where
there goin, or have a leader/tail man, i dont see a problem with it...

p.s. sorry it got a bit long..

Interesting thread.

Sometimes I like to cruise at 100kph. Sometimes I like to blat at 250.

This group has conducted itself in an exemplary manner so far. Anyone with problems has been assisted, there has never been an inexperienced rider without someone keeping an eye on them.

Well done blokes, don't change

just having a quick browse through this post, and something popped to mind
hey be glad i don't get good ideas too often :D
when you organize a ride and a specific route in mind maybe include free ride zones (eg. point c to d and point f to g) where the ride leader, tail charlie etc, can take it easy and anyone confortable with their own abilities can take off like a rocket and scratch their itch at their own leisure and anyone who is happy to just cruise along can do so :?: :?: :?:
if you guys have already thought of this
if not(very unlikely but i'll try anyway)
glad to be of help :D :D :D
