Front Fork Seals

My front fork seals are very near to needing to be replaced. Got no idea how they managed to start leaking in the first place!!

Anyway, S.A.'s resident Mr. Fix-it (Jamie, yes, he's still a quasi-member, he just doesn't post on here.) has offered to take a look at it for me. He informs me he's never done this before, but after reading my service manual thinks it should be easy enough.

Has anyone ever done this procedure? Is it easy enough, or is it something I should be taking to the dealers?

I need to get mine done too.. She's due for teh 24K service, so i'm just gunna take it to PS or Brighton Kawa and get it all done..

Prob PS, cause I can just walk/tram to work in the morning.

i can send you some stuff straight out of the ZX7R manual if you need. It should be around the same.

Just watch out for the spring when it pops out

But I have the ZX6 service manual. Makes it look easy, but in my experience, things that look easy never are.

get it done professionally, unless you have all the gear
its not that expensive
and (in the case of Brighton Kwaka) done quickly....
and they also re-finish the fork leg surface
(Linish..is the correct term)
so the new seal beds in..and will take a lot longer to wear....
They also re-set the front forks (settings, oil levels, air gap etc)
to what they know works....

its not too hard it took me 2 hours. I didnt have the right tools but managed to use other parts that a website suggested.

Wonder if the time in postage cancels out the "done quickly" bit?

Just paid to have mine done on the fzr, Check your dust covers( the bit you can see) mine were rusty and they did nt replace them Quote [ oh no you dont replace them the seals inside .... oh we can do it next time ... why didnt you say ????.....:bonk] just my 2 cents worth.

what I meant was..drop the bike in early morning
pick it up a few hours later....job is done proper......

Yes Mina, we do.. but why pay for something if you can do it yourself?

so long as you've got something to prop the front end up I understand you should be able to do it yourself without too much hassle.
Easier for them to do it of course. I think it cost me <$100 when I had the GPX done. Dunno what the parts cost.
