Ohlins compatability?

Tue Dec 18, 2012 4:55 pm

Will a Ohlins shock of a 07 zx14 fit a zx12 04 and up??

Doubt it. Zx12's were loosely based on the zx9.

The 14 more loosely based in the zx10's.

WTF ??

The 12 was nothing like the 9's mate. The frame for starters - its a monocoque frame. The motor was a brand-new design that had never been used in any Kawasaki previously. There is almost nothing that can be swapped between a 12 and a 9......nothing at all.

The 14 on the other hand - it is an upgraded and updated 12. Same basic motor design, in a monococque chassis. Improved in a lot of areas but still definitely has ZX12R in its DNA. The 14's had almost nothing in common with the ZX10's. Totally different motor design, frame etc.

Back to the OP - one way to check is compare the part numbers on somewhere like here. If the part number matches up - bazinga :kuda: . My gut feeling is that the shocks are likely to be pretty close but will probably have some small detail differences which mean they won't be a straight bolt-in proposition. Having said that - you might find that the mods required to fit a an 07 ZX14 shock into an earlier ZX12R will be easy to fix.

The 12's frame is different yes.
But wheels, swingarm, brakes and forks were all pretty much from the zx9 parts bin.

nothing like it mate. The last ZX9R was the F2 model from 2003 and it still used heaps of parts from the late 90's. Wheels have different axle diameters and bolt pattern, the brakes aren't radial, the forks are not u/s down and the swingarm looks nothing like a ZX12R swingarm.

But - the indicators were the same !

Did you say forks.????

Fail.... :D

Anyway
Not sure about fitting ends but the zx12r Ohlins shock length is 338 (same as the zx10r up to 2010, and zx9r :-) ) with a 01092-34 spring and the zx14r shock length is 330mm with a 01091-31 spring..
If its the S46HR1C1LS zx14 shock it has a +7 / -5mm ride height adjuster, if its the S46DR1 shock it has no height adjustment in the shock - spacers may be used.?.

It's the Ohlins with the ride height adjuster.
