A whole 2 days this weekend chasing litre bikes at the Island and I just love the 600 :D

How did the 600 go around the Island compared to the litre bikes? Did you do anything with sprockets for added speed etc, especially for Phillip Island?

Yep 600 is ok around the island, defintely a 1000cc track though. 15f 43 or 42 rear

What is easier to change. Front or rear sprocket?
Also which one has a bigger impact?

Rear is easier to change definately. Im still stock gearing and its down a tooth in the front for the Creek and Island from now on. Those pesky litre bikes are good down the straights but the 600 holds its own ;)

Front is harder but has more impact. Rear is easier.

For every tooth less on the front it is worth 2-3 extra teeth on the rear.

You will need to do the front down one anyways if is a tracky. It will give you a bit more bottom end.

Front is cheaper too. About $20 a sprocket compared to about $80 for a rear.

The front on my 6 is already -1. Just weighing up whether I go back up one on the front or look at the rear.

Leave it unless u want to lower the rpm at highway speeds. The rear is easy as simply removing the rear wheel and changing the sprocket.

Presumably, if I went up two or three teeth on the rear, I'd have to get a new chain given the extra travel required.
Might look to do that next year when I get to Phillip Island.

Hey mate, I call bullshit!!!  You seen the lap times of a 250 GP bike at the Island??? Seen current WSS and Oz SS times??? Going fast around Phillip Island has NOTHING to do with HP. It's actually a corner speed track, which is why the times for a SBK and SS bike are so close. Considering the 600 is near on half the capacity, one would expect that if it were in fact a HP track, the gap would be way larger. My old 95 model 6 still manages mid 40's with ancient old me on it. With a decent pilot, it is capable of a 41 or 42. (Bayliss used to do 41's on it and I have done a 42 back in the day, but too slow now, leave it to the youngens!)

Riding a 600 around the Island FAST, is still more scary than most road riders will ever experience. On the 95 ZX6 I can have the rear wheel spinning through EVERY turn at PI if I am not judicial with the throttle and that bike only has about 100hp. A current litre bike has near double that so they are not fun, they are insane!!

How on earth do you figure that Marty :/.

Australia 600's are lapping the creek 5-6 seconds a lap slower than the ozzy superbikes.

Who the fark is riding super sports these days??????? Cams, heads, cranks , valve all add up to a supersport being around 150rwhp which is almost as powerful as the current 1000's.

Let's compare what has been asked and that is what stock standard 6 is like compared to a 1000 at the island . ;)

But yes bayliss is a different kettle of fish compare to joe blow by even the 1000's were doing 35's which is still 5 secs quicker than 1.40's

Pretty sure I was talking about Phillip Island......not Eastern Creek!!!!!

As for 150HP SS bikes, I don't know of 1 Aussie Spec SS bike which has more than 120HP at the wheels. I am comparing apples, with apples. That is to say, Aussie Spec SBK, V's Aussie Spec SS bike. Have a look at the lap records for those and then tell me I am wrong. Also, go ask any top level national SBK or SS rider and they will agree with my statement.

As for a stock 600 compared with a stock 1000, I think, you may find that with the same rider there will not be a large gap.

As for 1000's doing 35's and 600's doing 40's, could I ask where you got those times from???? The 40 I quoted from Bayliss, was in 1995 on a 1995 model 600, with 1995 model tyres. I still own the bike and it does not make anything more than about 100hp.

If you try to tell me that the modern 600's have more HP, then so do the modern 1000's.

From FX site, last round at EC - Both from 1st race Sunday

FX 600
2 Kevin CURTAIN (NSW) 1:40.739 1:35.608 1:35.385 1:35.714 1:35.770 1:35.576 1:35.602

FX1000
1 Kevin CURTAIN (NSW) 1:39.047 1:33.763 1:33.839 1:34.216 1:34.121 1:34.890 1:35.249

Considering theres a few more mods allowed in FX1000 (ex, full sytems and aftermarket shocks) than there is in the FX600's I reckon theres not a lot in it.. :-)
But extra weight will slow the 600's down more than it will a 1000.. :D

OH, and don't forget this guy...

FX 600 EC middle of this year.
18 67 D Russell HAFEY (NSW) / Bakers Delight / The Art Of Façade Kawasaki ZX6R 7 11:53.165 29.097 1:39.802 5
