Bendix MRR pads

I've got a 2007 Zx10r track bike.

I changed the front calipers to a set of 2007 CBR1000 front calipers based on peoples experience on here with the 07 standard front caliper and how they were described as being poor.

I bought a set of Bendix MRR from Kenma online based on their online description which is:

Road and Endurance Racing - MRR Compound
Bendix's road and endurance racing pads are designed specifically to meet the extreme demands of motorcycle racing. These pads are suitable only for front wheel applications. Racers should use either MA, MR or MCR compound pads for rear wheel applications. MRR compound pads provide superb braking performance with very high initial bite as they retain some heat, even with infrequent applications. They are also friendly to rotors and provide good wear for racing pads.

This compound is particularly good for race tracks or climatic conditions where the brakes can cool down a lot, which can cause braking problems with other compounds. Bendix pads are used by top racers throughout the world - surely they can't all be wrong. If you race your bike to the max, get it to stop to the max as well, get Bendix.

They are described as "sintered" pads elsewhere on the site however when I received the invoice they were described only as road pads.

Anyway, I thought that being sintered pads they would be ok but, the thing is, I did one trackday on them (40 laps of QR) and they're half worn!

The pads were 5mm....it's now 2.5mm!

The pads performed ok and I have no problem saying they're ok to use but they're not gunna last another track day, for me a least anyway.

So, anyone got any suggestions as to what sort of pad would suit me and QR and me and Eastern Creek.

The hardest brake at QR is along the back straight where you hit 245km/h and I brake at the 180m mark and brake down to a 60 km/h corner.

I will try to explain as best as possible although it would be easier if you have any further questions to give me ring as we can cover more in less time.

While you are disappointed with the life of the pads (and I can understand why considering the life you have previously had from road going pads) from what you describe the wear rates are what we would expect from MRR. MRR has less material thickness when new than standard pads so please advise the measurements taken when new and now and we can determine % of wear. I would expect 20000-30000km from a set of Bendix MF compound HH rated road pads and between 2000-4000 km from MRR if used on the road. These averages are just that averages, some get more some get less.

As for longevity A graders racing with MRR will use a set every two meetings (remembering that they will get similar time on track over a three day meet as you would in one ride day).
For endurance racing MRR will do a two hour enduro, starting the race with a brand new set and but checking them at one hour when changing tyres. We would not expect them to last more than two or three hours. 5 x 8 lap sessions depending on track type and length is around 80 minutes so to potentially you could be able to get nearly three hours out of each set. All this of course depends on the riding style, track (QIR or Winton are much harder on brakes than Eastern creek or Phillip Island) and condition of the brake discs.

As for what to use at ride days in future,

1.0 You could go back to a HH rated standard road pad but loose the performance and potential to improve your lap times.
2.0 Stick with MRR and replace them every second ride day like tyres.
3.0 Use Bendix MSR compound which lasts about three times longer but are also three times the price @ $200.00 each calliper set but can not be used on the road they are for race use only


I guess he thinks that this is the first track bike I've had and that I'm comparing the pad life for a bike that's used on the road. I’ve been running a ZXR750 for quite a while before I got the 10.
While the ZXR750 is an old bike, it’s heavy and it doesn’t have a lot of power (compared to the ZX10R) it still pulled 1 minute 10’s at Broadford and 1 26’s at QR with me on it.
The ZXR750 would hit approx 205km/h on the back straight at QR (compared to 245km/h on the 10) and I could brake at the 180 metre mark (compared to the 200 metre mark for the 10). Generally I would pass most (not all just most) punters on the track under brakes who all seem to brake at the 250 metre mark. (Which is scary when you’re going flat stick and they’re braking and you’re flying down the inside of them and you're braking at you're limit and then they turn in early!!!)
The thing is that I have done probably 10 track days on the ZXR750 at Phillip Island, Winton, Broadford and Queensland Raceway, all on one set of pads! A set of DP racing sintered HH brake pads.
Anyway, I originally posted because I didn’t want other KSRC members buying these bendix pads without knowing what they’re buying. Basically I think calling pads like these MRR pads “endurance” is a load of crap. I’d call 24 hours use endurance. I’d call pads that last 3 hours “sprint” pads.

I’ve now ordered a set of Ferodo race compound pads and a set of Galfer carbon graphite G1003 race compound and I’ll try them.

DP are pretty good pads, i ran ebc hh for some time, work well, wear well, and cost ok.
Im now running preformance fricton pads in full carbon, not cheap!! they have done one broardford rideday and wear is good, better than i was expecting.
it pays to shop around, ive seen big differences in prices for same brand pads, and i mean up to a $100 difference.

The DP pads are great and bite like crazy but they literally eat your discs alive....

I got mine from road rocket in melbourne, paid $100 for both front sets!!! yep $100, normally about $300 for carbon sets i think, they had a big sale on a while ago, selling brembo's pads for same price as well. thats why i tried them, mate had been trying to talk me into them a while ago, but baulked at price!!
