zx9r brake shudder

Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:14 am

When I'm heading into turn 2 at eastern creek, I get on the brakes and the lever shudders.
Initially the brakes dont bite. I have to let the lever go then try again before the brakes work.
The bike is a 99 zx9r. It has goodridge braided lines. The brakes have basically no feel to them.
As far as my options go, what can I do to:
a) get rid of the brake shudder
b) provide better feel
c) bolt on other parts as an upgrade

Does it only do it at turn 2.?

Disks straight.?
Wheel straight and balanced correctly.?
Front suspension been serviced, not bottoming.?

Yeah, only into turn 2.
No handling problems anywhere else.
Its mainly the problem that I almost ran off the track a few times
and the complete lack of feel from the brakes.

Strange its only turn 2, hence why it makes me thinks it may not be just the brakes.
Check the things I mentioned above, and add to that the steering head bearings.
The brakes on the 9 are usually pretty good, but a service of the calipers and master cylinder may be whats needed.

I have had both my 9s at the track and the only time i had a front end shudder was when it did a mad cow  Yep riding around and the top nut was spinning around, completed lap and tightned no probs. As far as feel goes only had one issue lever needed lube as it was a bit grabby witch gave the effect of having a notchy feel or pull the brakes on twice.Lubed the pivot point and good as gold.I also use genuine nissen pads which have plenty of feel.

I had this issue, on my road and track bike, You'll possibly find the floating rotors are seized and need loosening and lubing. If the rotors can't move that won't centralize themselves.
