riding in a new bike?

Sat Jul 23, 2011 7:12 pm

so this has probably been covered many times before but i seem to fail reasonably hard when it comes to using the search function on most forums..

anywho..

i was wondering the best way to run in a new bike?
i have heard there is a aggressive and a... less aggressive? way to run them in.
whats the difference and the +/- of each? personal preference/why?

im looking at purchasing a brand new ninja 250r, im not sure if that changes anything.

cheers, tom.

I just follow the handbook until the first service then try to vary the RPM for the next 1000km or so. Run it high in the RPM for a while, mid range and low cruise just back and forth in the rev range.

My current zx6r was hitting redline on the way home with about 22km on the clock. 8000km later and I lurve it. Just ride the thing, vary the revs (ie dont freeway / constant idle it) in the break in and enjoy :kuda:

A hard run in gives your piston rings a better seal, but risks a mechanical problem showing up earlier, which should b covered by warranty. I ran my 6 in at the creek, 0km on odo

its not so important with the plated bore technolige unlike the older honed bore.loading it up is the best bet but as above said don't stay at the same rev for long just keep useing the gears.don't worry 90% of new bike have allready coped a floging on the test ride + the factory dyno"s them first.
