this could be an old subject my 12r recently stopped and would not wind over I blamed the battery I tried jumping it from 3 different batteries with no luck.Today i found oil in the regulator coupling which apparently happens at about 25 -30k kms [must of missed recall ] does any one know if this can damage the regulator and or ECU because of over charge maybe

any help appreciated because next weekend is another long one and the rain has now stopped . I really need to ride

never heard of this fault before mate, my 12R has >50k on board now, and no problem like this ? It is on its 2nd battery now though - they generally fail between 4-5 years. What year is your 12 ? No recalls on the 05 model afaik ?

My ride Is an 01, the problem exists so i beleive from positive crancase pressure forcing oil up through the insulation to the barrel conector, just before the regulator, causing over heating of the wiring. I have been researching for a couple of days and found many others who have had the same problem.I have never heard of this before myself, but it does exist. Maybe your model was fixed before release but its still worth looking at.Some people have mentioned smoke coming from under the seat, others discoloured insulation but all had oil in the connector. Below is an adress to a forum page you will find four sticky topics related to this. If i can figure out how to upload photos i will do so.

Common issue on early models, oil wicking up the wires, there was a recall on this back way back then.
