fitted new rear pads

I'm relatively new to bikes and this forum. Hi to those i haven't come across here yet

I got a ZZR6000 a couple months ago. Since then I have been fixing/replacing a few things on it. I don't have any experience in mechanical work but am happy enough to waste some time figuring out how to do most stuff.

So far i've done the chain & sprockets and now i've replaced the rear brake pads. I saw when i took the old pads out that they were really worn out. I checked the fronts thinking they might need doing as well but they looked like they must have been done not to long ago, they looked brand new so i left them in.

After fitting the rears the sun came out for a couple hours and dried the road so i made the most of it and went for a ride giving the rear brake a bit of a workout. By the time i got home the rear disc was warped and was scrubbing on the pad as it spun round it sounds nasty going slow through parking lots.

Maybe I hammered the rear brakes too hard and it caused the disc to warp...or the disc was so old it couldn't handle the heat. Any one have an opinion? i don't know much about these things. Did i do something dumb?

Bit annoying doing one job and creating another problem to fix. I got a top box too and am getting a mate, who is more handy than I, to make a strong rack for it to fit to in the next couple weeks.

I've ordered a new LTR Disc online so i'll fit that and dump the oil n put a new oil filter in on my next day off. Prob should get some brake fluid and do that too. Hopefully that will be it for a while and the sun might come back out one of these days so i can enjoy riding it. There's been 1 dry day in the last 2 or 3 week here.

Hunt down a manual on the web and check the spec on disc thickness. RTA minimum is 4.5mm I read somewhere, possibly wrong though. Better just to get the new disc.

Get a new rear; it must have been close to dead. What compound were the new rear pads?

The new rear disc i've ordered complies and is 5mm minimum thickness. It cost $128 delivered

The new pads are sintered copper alloy, supposed to last a while.

I'm pretty sure the minimum thickness allowed is printed on the disc itself. I know on my 99 ZX6, it has 4.5mm printed on the disc, next to the hub.

What i meant was the disc i've ordered is 5mm at it's minimum thinkness sorry. So yes the disc i'm getting does meet the minimum requirements being 4.5mm
