Screwed rear tyre

So I was riding home after nightshift and I noticed the rear start to step out a bit. Got home and sure enough, Screwed rear tyre!

Its a GPR100. Is there any way of getting this fixed? Not by me obvously, someone that knows what they're doing. I know there are those tyre repair things but they're only temps right?

I'm guessing that there isn't much i can do especially since its on/near the edge of the tyre. I'd figure it'd be stuffed but when it comes to tyres I know SweetFA. All I want is tyres that get me places, and this one is failing at its job at the moment.

Yeah, lot's of people will tell you otherwise, but the temp plugs are brilliant!! I have raced at Phillip Island several times with Plugs in my tyres! A mushroom plug inserted from inside of the tyre is always a more secure option, but the standard "Rema Tip Top" kit with the little plugs inserted from outside the tyre will work fine!

It's not repairable, from what I know (as I get my tyres screwed all the time) If it's not in the middle of the tyre and in not in an angle - You'll need to replace the tyre

I was told by a NSW bike shop that the law had changed last year from 5mm to 3mm... They stated that as bike tyres are rated to do excessive speeds they would be liable if the tyre failed after they plugged a hole larger than 3mm...

looking at the pics you posted,,,, in my experience with tyre repairs (use to work in the tyre industry)the rule is ,,,,,if the puncture is 30mm or less from the side wall it is a NWR(not worth repairing) due to the factor that no repair will be guaranteed due to the stress and movement that is placed in that area,,,,,the repair if done from the inside which is the proper way would peel away after time,,,,,and all plugs that are from the out are only a quick fix till it is repaired properly,,,,,,that's the rule in the tyre industry

Be on the safe side and just replace it, not worth risking to see how long it will last and how much u can push it...

Went to the local shops here. The first bloke that i dealt with was, well, useless comes to mind. Didn't have much idea and wasn't putting much effort in to find out. I asked how much it would cost me to get a replacement tyre just in case and got the responce.........."don't know. we don't deal much with road bikes here, don't have many road tyres round at the workshop."

WTF!!??

They could've at least maybe tried to find out. They have a show room floor with a few of the damn things (road bikes), and they are obviously one of the biggest dealers with some of the biggest motorcycle brandnames.

So I went to a differant dealer and got far better service. I got far better informed of the situation and the things they look at when repairing tyres. I got told a tale of a bloke who brought in a tyre with a "small bit of metal" that he picked up from his workplace (a building site). He couldn't get the metal out and was contemplating pushing it in and using one of those plugs but decided maybe to take it to the shop.

They took the tire off for two reasons- 1. because they put the mushroom type thingamajigs whatssits in from the inside.
2. they get to inspect the inside of the tyre and check the damamge.

It turns out the metal was far larger than the victim previously expected and if he had pushed it in he would have had this huge lump of metal banging around in his tyre.

Anyway, mine will be inspected and if its possible they'll fix. If not i guess i'll be replacing it. I'll be sure to give the rundown when i get a result.
